I noticed that the latest windows updates have many updates for NET. What is it? How do I know If I have it? I have never (as far as I know) downloaded anything that would install NET. I have XP home edtion, and my computer is like a zillion years old. I use my old puter for the most basic
stuff: email, some surfing (weather, news, etc). So what do I need it for? Thanks! |

.NET is short for .NET framework. Some programs require this in order to run. You can find out if you have it by looking in ADD/Remove Programs. If you do not have a program that needs it, then it is not necessary to keep it but removing it can sometimes be problematic so it's best just to let Windows do the update.

I believe Windows 7 comes with .NET Framework 4.0 preinstalled; I don't know if you can actually uninstall it.

.NET 3.5 is part of windows 7. .NET 4 is a "recommended" update. I do not have .NET 4 installed on my Win 7 and XP computers. If something complains that I need it, then I'll install. Presently. all the software I use, is working.
