I'm trying to add my kids computer to my network but I'm having trouble.

The PC has a linksys wireless adapter but I can't get this computer online. I can connect to my neighbors network but I can't connect to my home network. But even though I can connect to my neighbors network, I still can't get online.

I have two other computers in the house; one directly connected to the modem/airport and one connected wirelessly.

I did the ipconfig and I am getting an IP address. I try iprenew and it didn't do anything but timeout.

Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

hello ..my very very first post....You must provide more details. about your set up..There is so many possibilities. Having 1 address, means nothing..1# Is your IP provider assigned to YOU a static address or is it dynamic which keeps changing (by a small bit)..There is to many scenarios. But #1 check that the host file is ok #2 There are 3 entries that are the key to eureka..static address, subnet and the default gateway and in case of wireless the correct entry of ESSID name. (whatever name You have assigned to your network). That is basics and I am sure You know all that.i have a linksys WRT300N router..and my loptop is connected via air and land. to the same router...cable is no problem, but air, I must keep adjusting all the time..dhcp is connected but there is no multicast..good thing is rebooting the router and the modem,( TV or phone, no matter)..then your address is renewed and Windows are getting that usually quick. there is a small utility (I losted) called LAN Calculator...I tried to get it again, but geeks search tells me, that, no such a thing. My Guess is that under different name..Anyway it does all the "calculus" for You...Example static address is 192.168.1.0 (subnet usually is 255.255.255.0...but is not a rule, to many combinations to mention here, but is good to reversed, like 0.0.255 or use /24 just to get the default Gateway which in this case it would be 192.168.1.1...The IP give You a range of subnets to use.and the lease time, which must be renewed by so many seconds, but that is secondary....You did connected to your friend (via air) dhcp server but w/o multicast ...(no encryption ? did you, use his ESSID ?) I am not a native english speaker, This post is too long but no essence..I hope I am forgiven ..But I do know I did mention all the key elements.Get some simple network sniffing utilities, they will show you the ports, protocols and what the hungry modules are listining to...There is the last possible answer. your firewall or some program messed up your registry HKLM/System/ControlSet firewall sharing entries, with phony host entry ::1 Unless You are at LINUX (old back up of reg wont work, because they are strongly protected. unless You use top of the line, hit and run reg utilities..like registry toolkit of funduc software..The key is Gateway and address,,,I only showed the example..do not follow those numbers....my address today is 192.168.1.104..I gave the short version,,,Also good idea is to dig into logs..With all the connections entries (old ones for
connections referencies)...For The sake of the kids, wish You Luck

your pc may be to far from the router. Try moving the PC closer to the router.
If this does not work, then reset yr router by pushing in on the reset button on the back of the router for about 30 sec.
