Why does Acronis True Image v 10 take so long to verify a backup?(

My full backup took 24 minutes, the verification took 92 minutes. :p

Nearly 4 times as long. Ridiculous.

It doesn't encourage users to verify their backups, which is not a good idea as there is nothing as useless as a corrupt backup.;) Bazza

While I do blame user error to some extent. I have never had any luck with acronis. Something always screws up and I loose everything. After the second time, I gave up and am super happy with nortons ghost version 8. That has never failed me. I keep a ghost image on a seperate partion on my slave drive, and I keep a copy on dvd. Saved me alot of reloading tons of times.

I'd appreciate an answer to my original question, if possible. :D Bazza

PS: No user error, I just follow the prompts.;) Baz

I don't think it's a big triouble, coz it's a background process and it doesn't brake other processes. I used True Image since version 6 and have never been dissapointed. Now I use v.10 and I think it's the best backup software. :drool

Just a slight guess as I dont know Acronis's algorithms to compaction of the image file, or how they verify, but while the initial image will be fairly quick, the verifying process will be longer as not only will the software have to check the image data against the original data, it will have to uncompress it to check, thus being longer.

I have noticed V10 is a bit slower for me in checking against V8, maybe better verification routines!?!?

To get a clear answer why not email Acronis?

I'm probably completely wrong but I cannot see why Validation should take much longer than writing data to a DVD, or wherever.
Writing data takes longer than reading.
Certainly not nearly 4 times longer to validate data.

When I do validation I do not run anything else, at the same time.

I will contact Acronis, but I thought I'd get any experiences that MG members are having using Acronis, before doing so. Bazza
