Once you make a True Image copy you can reformat your HD, then install all your "Old" programs as they were when you copied, and yes it reinstalls the OS as well, but will not bypass Windows Security IE installing on another machine, if that is where you were heading!!!!

You can save file info, but as for the OS/Partion Info/Configuration you require a program that creates a "Total Image" of your HD and partions. Hence Acronis's True Image

Do you have the Windows 2K disc and the installers along with any serial #s/registrations for the programs you have?

hi ekhan! true image can make a full precise copy of you windows, and write it to the disk. to make this backup you don't need to have extra knowledge, just choose what type of backup you want to perform and follow the instuctions(i think true image is very handly, and you won't be confused). If you have some problems you can ask for help their online support, or read user's guide yourself. the main thing is NOT to be affraid of this.

I would recommend that that you make your drive image after a fresh reinstallation of your OS and programs, if possible. That way you won't carry over any potential issues and problems from your present installation. Don't forget to back up your documents first. Also, I suggest you replace the Norton 2001 as it's seriously out of date. Here's a list of freeware highly recommended by MG, including antivirus and firewall applications: http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20

Just Playin after i create a drive image will it automatically turn into a windows 2000 restore cd?

It will be an exact duplicate of everything on your hard drive, all the settings, files and programs you installed. It will not become a Windows 2000 installation CD. When you use the drive image you make, it will install an exact duplicate of the drive you imaged. In effect, it it will be your own custom restore disc with the Windows 2K OS and your programs just the way you want it set it up.

so after i burn the image to a cd i can format my computer and i think the cd will be bootablle and then it will start copying all files on my hard drive??

True Image will request at start-up to make a bootable disk CD/Floppy which you insert to boot your computer from, you then insert the CD's you have "Imaged" as requested by the program. SO BEFORE YOU "IMAGE" YOUR HD, MAKE CERTAIN YOU HAVE CREATED A BOOTABLE CD/FLOPPY.....Before you reformat your HD and wipe-out ALL your data, try starting True Image from the bootable CD/Floppies, then proceed to "Install Back-up Image stop short of it actually proceeding to installing "Image". Seen too many that have had errors either in the "Bootable CD/Floppy" or their "Image" File and have lost all their data. SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE DAY, SO GO SLOOOOW, AND MAKE CERTAIN YOU ARE CONFIDENT OF YOUR ACTIONS Hope that helps, suggest you visit the site I gave you earlier and poke around and see what others have said and their problems, so you do not repeat them.

so i create an image (iso file) of my whole drive c and then after its finished my system restore disk is finished??

    No. Not exactly.

It will make recovery discs which you will be able to use to reinstall everything that was on your hard drive when you backed it up. Use the wizard and it will walk you through the whole process. Both Ghost and TrueImage will image your HD and save it to a CD,DVD or external hard drive. The recovery disc(s) will restore your system to whatever it was like when you made them.

Here is the Acronis TrueImage page. It will tell you exactly what it can do: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

Here is the Norton Ghost page. It has some information about Ghost, but not much: http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=br&pvid=ghost10

i don;t know how it's working in nortin ghost, but in true image just before backing up you should adjust the option make a bootable CD, and then you can burn the image to the CD.

In Acronis TrueImage so do i just go and click on "Create Bootable Rescue Media to be able to restore your computer in case it becomes unbootable"
and when i do that it asks for an iso file and so do a create an iso file with my hard drive in it and then im done??

Honestly ekhan your best bet for vendor software questions is the vendors/users sight first as they have FAQ's and Forums that all of us first time users go to. If you find problems that can not be solved there, then try MG. We have given you some good sights to research, and there is were we would have to go to answer your questions????? Myself I use the "Old" Power Quest's Drive Image which is now part of Symantec's Ghost, so I have not updated it. The Vendor/User sights are usually much faster in response times than a general sight can ever be. Hope that helps you ekhan

Acronis will burn the disc also. Like Plaphon recommends, you can go to the Acronis forum for expert advice.
