    Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a benq DW-1650 DVD burner at eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8814299589&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

I'm not sure about it's compatibility with my pc and whether I can use the cables, etc, from my present CD-R/RW DVD-ROM drive. Hardware info about my pc from a Belarc Report:
Sorry if it's an overabundance of info but I'm never sure what info you guys/ladies might need.

I've gone around the net and I have too much info to take into consideration, such as one site said that the power supply doesn't come with the burner.

I just need to know if this burner would be compatible with my pc, if my processor can handle it and what else I'll need to buy to install it. Will the cables for my present burner fit with this one, are these cables all the same? Or will I need to buy another one?

I agree. DVD RW drives are so cheap now that it doesn't make sense to buy one on ebay. I would go with one from Newegg as well.

    New cables or anything else?

    Ok, great, thanks. . .

So, the cables from my present CD burner should fit the benq?

I already have Nero burning software. Is there anything else I'll need?

Yes, the cables should fit any CD/DVD drive you put in there. And your copy of Nero will work as long as it didn't come with another burner. Sometimes those copies only work with the drive it came with.

Hi Wyatt_Earp and hugh. Thanks for the info.

I purchased Nero 6 and also some plug-ins a while ago for my CD burner/DVD-ROM so they should work on the benq. If anything, I might have to buy a new plug-in at the most.

The reason I decided on a burner that didn't have lightscribe is because I've found that when a device has extra capabilities, somewhere along the line, the quality of one or both of them decrease, or the newer feature doesn't work well because it's introduction was in the close past and hasn't been perfected, or it's one more feature that can go wrong and cause problems.

I've read a few reviews about lightscribe and they were mixed. Some people said lightscribe was great on the dw1655, some people said poor. It probably depends on the knowledge that the user has and, as you might see :) , I'm not very knowledgeable about hardware yet, but pretty good with software.

(now if I only had the funds to buy a new processor, fan and heatsink, BIOS and flashing, and update my drivers, my pc would be great, as long as my mobo doesn't fail under the new heavy load, lol)
