Crashing PC

Hi, 2 or 3 year old PC crashes on a regular basis. Annoying, no Blue screen, just switches off. Have to reset Power Supply switch on back of PC to restart Keeps going to recheck drive for consistancy on restart. XP starts fine. Sometimes finds issues, and fisxes them, sometimes does not. No new software installs rercently, protected with McAfee. Crashes on defrag. Tried to download software to check disk, crashes on running. It will run Registry Repair Pro, but no significant pproblems found. Just deletes error entries.

Any thoughts?

I am not convinced it is softwware however. Its a bit chicken and egg.

i.e. is the disk check because the pc shut down or did the hard disc fail with a bad sector. Why can't I run defrag?

Also never had a Blue screen of death, so when there is power XP appears to run fine.

Seemed to me more like a hardware issue. Duff drive sectors? Power supply has already been replaced.

Any thoughts?
