    Hello,
My computer is infected with the Zero Access rootkit. I know this because Combofix pointed it out to me
    when I ran it tonight.
Basically getting browser redirects and such. Started investigating and noticed my Avira antivirus wasnt on
so I tried starting it, which failed, as well as updating it failed. I knew something was up so I tried opening
up Malwarebytes. As soon as I started scanning it closed, and then windows couldn't find the exe for it.
So I copied the install file from my other computer over to the infected one, installed, updated, and then
started to scan. Again, it closed out. Then, I opened up the task manager to find I had 146 processes
running, of which 100 was update.exe or something for updating Avira. In the meantime avira kept trying to
update even after multiple cancels and closing the program. So, I pulled out rkill from a zipped file I have
for these reasons. After running it the system pretty much froze up so I did a hard reboot and booted into
safe mode. I downloaded the newest version of combofix on my clean PC, copied and then ran it in safe mode
on the infected. It more or less immediately pointed out that I was infected with zeroaccess rootkit.
I ran combofix 2 times in a row all the way through, then tried Avira and MBAM as I did before with the same
problems-not able to scan. Also found and ran TDSSkiller 2 times. Also, ran aswMBR.exe 2 times as well. Still
    the rootkit is there.
That pretty much sums it all up to this point in time. Its kinda funny in a way because Im the one who my
friends and family come to when they have viruses. Using these tools I usually don't have much of a problem
getting rid of this crap. Now, Im the one who is stuck.
I will be attaching the requested logs, and afterwards will attach logs from the other programs I ran as well.
    This is XP SP3 btw.

Thanks for your help in helping me solve this problem.

    Scott

Last one.... when running MGtools, got an error when I accepted, or tried to accept, the trendmicro agreement for HJT. Took a screenshot, cropped, and posted as well.

Your Combo log shows no indication of a rootkit. Perhaps you attached the wrong one?

Hmmmm, strange.... it must have cleaned it up. All appears to be fine. After reading your message on my phone and then booting up the computer and trying to run avira, it opened 250+ instances of the scan. I uninstalled and reinstalled and now it runs fine. Very strange.
Attaching first combofix log....Im sure the first one I ran must say something about it, as it said I had a serious infection and also said it was zeroaccess rootkit.

    Thanks for your help anyhow.

    PS. From the attached log.
Infected copy of c:\windows\system32\drivers\netbt.sys was found and disinfected
Restored copy from - The cat found it :)

    Maybe thats its?? thx

Must have been since I am not finding any other malware in your logs.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

Thanks for your help in this matter. I ended up reformatting and installing win7 as I was already considering it. Now it surely is gone.
