ok well...this is kind of wierd...and my comp just started doing this...

when I connect to me local area connection (DSL modem btw)

it does the usual dot moving back in forth...acquiring network address thing...but for some odd reason...

ITS STILL TRYING TO ACQUIRE IT!!

I'm on the internet right now, using it fully, with no problems (other than myspace being a little slow..)

but its still going back and forth, I've done Repair, Disconnect and Reconnect, Rebooted the comp...

    what the hell?:major

try issuing this at the command prompt:

"net stop DHCP Client && net start DHCP Client" (without the quotes)

Let us know if it helps.

What DID happen? (That could be just as important as the symptoms) Did the service stop and restart successfully?

it said (in the command prompt) syntax net stop and that was it.

I'm sorry! That was my mistake. We need to wrap quotes around 'DHCP Client', otherwise the space between the two words will be taken as the end of the command.

    Try running this:

net stop "DHCP Client" && net start "DHCP Client"

    well, heres what I got..

the DHCP Client service is stopping...
the DHCP Client service was stopped successfully...

the DHCP Client service is starting...
the DHCP Client service started successfully...

    and its still....acquiring network address...

    Could you please run this:

    Code:
    ipconfig /all >> c:\ipconfig.txt && c:\ipconfig.txt
And attach the text file to a post?

This may be irrelevant, but how many network connections do you have enabled?

    Start
    Control Panel
    Network Connections

Reply with a Print Screen if it makes it easier. :)

This is the same thing I was wondering. ipconfig will tell us this too, as well as each one's DHCP settings.

I thought you were just trying to get information for the current one that is connected. My bad.

Same thing happened to me, but I was connected to a wireless router and I just cycled the DSL Modem and then the Router and it fixed the problem. Did you try to cycle your Modem (and Switch/Router if you are going through one)?

yes, I've cycled the modem several times...I usually have it hooked up to run through the router...but as of right now, I'm just running through the modem.

and as for network connections...I only have the local area connection on this computer, as I have yet to put in a wireless card and set that up..

    ok this is crazy odd...

it just stopped. randomly, like out of nowhere.

I went to make a sandwich ... and it said connected when I got back.

TBH, I don't think that icon is built on flawless routines. I've had that sucker running on me, when I had a STATIC IP set. DHCP Client service OFF.

Seen the same problem quite a few times.
