System continually freezes during normal use...

An Avast boot-time scan completed and also a CCleaner scan.

The system froze during both the MalwareBytes and MGtools scans.

Complete and incomplete logs are attached.

Have Hitman remove all that it finds, have it fix the proxy too on the Repairs tab. Then rescan and attach new log.

Did you have SAS fix what it found?

You have attached the wrong log for Malware Bytes (You attached the protection log)

Where is the log from RogueKiller?

  3. goliano

    goliano Corporal

MalwareBytes never finishes before the system freezes, so I don't get a log. In this scan it made 172 detections before hanging.

Don't know why I ran SuperAntiSpyware, cuz it wasn't on the list. Also didn't let it remove anything.

Also the system never shuts down properly. I always have to hold the power button.

    Requested logs attached.

Wow... run Malware Bytes in safe mode and let me know if it gets rid of those.

  5. goliano

    goliano Corporal

Yes, it got rid of them, but unfortunately also some files I needed.

When I restarted the machine after running Malwarebytes, I got a missing "ExplorerFrame" error. So, I removed the hard drive and copied the file from another PC into the windows/system32 folder. Upon starting, I no longer get the error, but instead a black screen. If I do Ctrl-Alt-Del I can get the

dialog, complete with background image. I can go into the task manager, but under Processes I don't see explorer.exe.

    I've attached mb_log.txt.

So you cannot get past the black screen? If so you should post in software and then return here afterwards to continue malware removal.

Ok, I'm back. Finally got into windows by, I think, running "SFC /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=D:\ /OFFWINDIR=D:\Windows\", "Restoring to an earlier date", and then starting from "Last Known Good Configuration", which didn't work previously.

    Issues:
System freezes (had to run MalwareBytes in safe mode for it to finish.)
System will not shutdown or restart w/o using the power switch.
No internet access even though wifi shows a working connection.

    Logs are attached.

I presume this system is not purposely set up to use a proxy?

  9. goliano

    goliano Corporal

    No, it isn't.

    LolliScan <<< Uninstall this.

You did not have Malware Bytes fix all what it found, unless you did so after attaching log. Please do so now then attach a hopefully clean log.

    [IMG] Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.
Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running!

Had to run MalwareBytes, RogueKiller, and GetLogs.bat in safe mode due to the system hanging before they finished.

Removed everything MalwareBytes found, though I don't think the log shows it.
Only the 6 [PUM.Proxy] detections showed up. The 8 [PUP|VT.TR/Drop.Softomat.AN] did not.

Note: RogueKiller is not placing a log on the desktop, I must use the Report button to save it.

    I have internet access, now.
    Still freezing.
    Still not shutting down properly.

    Logs attached.

Please rescan with Malware Bytes and be sure it's not finding anything else. Attach log.

Rescan with RogueKiller and attach log.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Done.

Was able to run JRT.exe in normal mode.

I attached the screenshot of an error msg involving "moters", but it looks like JRT deleted the offending file.

OK your last Hitman log said two days of trial left... is that still the case? If so get it to fix the proxy as the fix using RogueKiller did not implement... let me know how you get on!

Done. Had to reboot to finish deletions.

Still having shutdown issues. Don't know about the freezing, yet.

So now, when RogueKiller is run (in any mode) does it find the proxy entries?

You need to delete these from the Windows Registry if Hitman no longer can due to trial expiration.

    HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\globalUpdate
    HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\globalUpdatem

  23. goliano

    goliano Corporal

Ran RogueKiller, found the proxy entries and deleted them.

    Then deleted the following:

    HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\globalUpdate
    HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\globalUpdatem

    using regedit.

    In that order.

And upon rescan yet again with RK - proxy items no longer show up?
Are there any outstanding issues I have not addressed yet, any other problems malware related?

  25. goliano

    goliano Corporal

Even though I deleted them in the previous run, they were back. Deleted them again. 2 were replaced, 1 was deleted, 1 got an error. Log is attached.

    Stubborn...

    In normal mode do this:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now re run RogueKiller, just a scan (normal mode again) and attach log.

If this doesn't work, I will consult with colleagues about this.

    • Re run RK (in normal mode)
    • Have it fix proxy entries.
    • Reboot, rescan yet again and let me know if they reappear. It's showing alot less than it was before....

  31. goliano

After reboot and rescan the 2 proxy entries were gone.

The freeze and shutdown issues still remain, though.

OK do this: (it's been a while)

I would say this is why things are freezing:
Are there any actual malware problems remaining?

  35. goliano

    goliano Corporal

That would make sense, and not that I know of.

OK, here are the final steps... :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
