Am I clean now 'cause I'm not sure?

Hi folks. For about a week or two I've been plagued with popups and redirects and I finally found a chance to run some virus software. SuperAntiSpyware found a backdoor Hupigon that was let in by my McAffee virus protection (yes I'm planning on changing it) and missed by the Malwarebytes scan. I found your malware removal instructions and followed them to a T (I think). I am learning all of this stuff out of self defense so please forgive my lack of knowledge. I have a 32 bit, Vista dinosaur pc that is still trudging along but slated for replacement. But until then, we need to keep this old thing going and safe for financial transactions.

Is it safe now and how do I know? The popups and redirects have stopped. But when I boot up, a picture that I don't recognize of a goat flashes very quickly and disappears before the desktop fully loads. My clock time was correct with the Hupigon but now isn't. It changed to Mountain Time so I switched it back to Eastern Time. But the clock is now off by 3 hours. Is this a result of the programs I ran or a sign that something is still lurking?

I've attached several logs from the cleaning and again, I hardly know what I'm doing so please bear with me. There are 3 for RogueKiller and I don't know if you just need the one. And due to the 5 attachment limit, I still owe you a few more logs which I can attach in the next post. Thanks for all of the help you've provided so far and for any more that you can lend.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You were not supposed to fix anything with RogueKiller.

Please attacht the requested logs from Hitman Pro and MGtools to your next message.

Hi Chaslang. My apologies on my mistakes. Like I said, I am learning this on the fly. I know on at least one program, just hitting "continue" took things into an automatic cleanup.

I downloaded AutorunEater which apparently is the source of the flashing goat image so that is OK. Still not sure about the system clock issues. It was off time despite being set to the correct time zone and was flipping in and out of military time. Then a McAffee scan started automatically and reported 3 Trojans but did not identify them but did quarantine them. Since it let them through, I'm surprised it even found them - or remnants of Trojans. The system clock is now the correct time but seems to stay in military time.

The HitmanPro log won't attach because it exceeds the 375 limit at 453 KB. Not sure how to fix that.

    Thanks again!

Compress your Hitman log into a ZIP file and attach that.

Your MGlogs.zip file shows that you are booting in safe mode!! You need to run MGtools.exe in normal boot mode. Please do the below to get a new log.

First boot into normal boot mode.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

Hi Chaslang. I am beyond frustrated with the Mgtools. It keeps disappearing despite having been downloaded twice and it has been saved on the desktop. I do not know what is going on. The only way I seem to be able to download it is in safemode. All other attempts are blocked and my crappy McAffee won't let it through despite following all of your Firefox and Chrome setting changes. So I seem to only be able to run it in safemode. I have been at this for hours running in circles and getting nowhere. Any suggestions?

As for the McAffee scan yesterday, I know it only complicates things but it engaged while another user was on and I only realized it too late.

I have attached a normal mode Hitman log.

Again, thanks for your patience and help.

My last instructions did not ask you to run or download MGtools.exe again. They asked you to run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat which is already on your PC from the first time you ran MGtools.exe. YOu no longer need MGtools.exe.

OK, I've got another MgTools for you. Again, it is not for a lack of trying, I am doing the best I can with my limited knowledge so please bear with me. Thanks again.

    You're welcome.
    No worries!! ;)

Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Java 7 Update 67

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\PROGRA~1\SearchProtect

    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • For Windows 8 and 8.1 system restore see this link: Win 8 System Restore - How to enable/disable
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Not so sure I'm back to normal. I got another popup from McAfee today saying that it found and blocked another trojan (no identification given) while I was running a Malwarebytes scan. Maybe it identified a piece of it as malware. But I was still able to run it so I'm not sure. It found "0" threats. The log won't upload "invalid file" with the .xml extension. I don't know why.

Also, the system clock is still flipping in and out of military time while just using a non-administrator user account. Chrome has been crashing and in my last attempt to respond to this thread, I had a full system crash while using Chrome. Firefox is working normally so far. And McAfee Site Adviser just gave me a popup window that said a site was trying to change my browser settings so I hit "remove." I've just been rerunning the virus software and no surfing so I don't know where that is coming from.

So I ran through the whole Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure from start to finish again. Rogue Killer had a "LL2 MBR 1 incorrect function" message and I'm not sure how to best fix that. I've attached the logs again with the exception of Malwarebytes.

    Thanks again!

Your logs are still clean. You probably just had a conflict with what Malwarebytes was doing.

Please post in the Software Forum for this non-malware issue.

Also an issue for the Software Forum but perhaps fixable by a reinstall.

It is not a problem. It was in your first RogueKiller logs too.
