I have an Inspiron 8600 with 1394 net adapter & broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller & dell wireless wlan 1450 dual band wlan mini-pci card and the pcmcia adapter is a TI pci-4510 CardBus Controller, OS is XP Professional (this issue occured before and after svc pks & all other updates)

When I first got this laptop i had comcast as my internet provider where they provided modem, however connection kept dropping every 15 or more seconds with laptop stating searching for address then it would reconnect a minute or 2 later, but drop again like before, this was a continuous problem, using wired cable or wireless neither dell nor comcast could not find solution.

I changed providers to SBC using their modem and where i connect with no problems again using either cable or wireless without connection drops yaaaaaaay but............

.......I travel alot and experience these 15 or more second drops at hotels using various providers again, trying both wireless or cable, ending up using dial up.

Thus problem also occurs at friends homes and yes one uses comcast where his works great and mine wont stay connected.

Cards are fine as they work at home, settings were confirmed to be correct by both dell, comcast and hotels and signal strengths are strong and again trying wired as well.

It cant be sbc setup cuz the problem occured before changing to sbc

I am stumped, what could be causing this? and what should I look for.. I wish can connect both at home and abroad.

Many thanks for any advice :)
