I was trying to set up the net send messenger on my home network and I wasn't able to get it to work. Could someone make a tutorial. Some things about my set up..Dell computer, Windows XP home edition, Symantec Firewall, 2Wire Router. I'd also need to know how to set up my alias and how to check what our workgroup or domain is. If anyone has time to help Thanks :)

By default the "net send" service is disabled for security reasons. If you have Broadband or High-Speed Internet access I wouldn't even think about enabling it. If you do have either connection then I would look online for a cheap LAN Messanger. However, if you want to enable it just let me know.

To check your Workgroup and/or Domain go to Start, Control Panel, System, click on the tab Computer Name, then it should show either Domain or Workgroup.

    I didn't know that. I don't want it then :(

TO be fair net send was only disabled with a service pack. I believe it was service pack 1. Before that it was enabled by default.

Also, you can enable it safely IF (very important IF) you have a router setup to block net send messages. In most cases a router will do this by default. If you have the router you can enable it just fine. Although, net send will only work on your home network, which is most likely what you want.

If you enable it without a router, you'll be subject to spam messages appearing on your screen randomly.
