I'm looking for a truly free registry cleaner...one that doesn't clean only 50 of your errors, or only cleans some of the categories of errors. I need one that is truly full functioning registry cleaner. Thx!!!

CCleaner is tried and true, and a perennial favorite here at Major Geeks. I use it on my home PC and it has never done me wrong. It cleans junk from the hard drive and cleans dead links and disconnected keys from the registry, and offers to make a back up of the registry just in case something goes wrong.... and it's 100% free for life. I also like Wise Registry Cleaner. It marks items as safe to delete, unknown, and probaby Not safe to delete. If you know for sure that something in the not safe list is OK to remove, you can choose to do so. It is also 100% free.

Many of the "free" registry cleaners like you described are called 'rogue ware' and are actually viruses/spyware/malware in disguise. Be sure to completely remove these fake reg cleaners from your PC and promptly run some scans with your favorite virus and spyware remover(s)...

I agree with dlb, CCleaner works well for me. And it is free.

I also use RegScrubXP. Although it doesn't clean out everything, they have some cool(ish) tweaks that you can use in the Misc. section.

Just beware using Lexun RegScrubXP 3.25. It hasn't been updated for over 5 years, and some (a few) people have had bad results, although it has been downloaded 100,000's of times.

Make sure you backup your Registry first, before using any Registry Cleaner. Better to be sure, rather than be one of the few unlucky ones. Bazza

Oh... that's the one I have. Oh well it's OK, I'll just not use it for now. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't really like the interface anyways. I only like the tweaks in it.

CCleaner has my vote. Great drive cleaner, fair registry cleaner and great startup management. I like the registry cleaner because it is more conservative then most. Frankly, your not going to get any sort of speed improvement or much else cleaning the registry so I like to err with caution.
