    Can you ping the computer?

    I.E.

Start, run, type in CMD (press enter).

ping computername (computername = name of the computer)

    or

ping ipaddress (ipaddress of the computer)

    Also within cmd

type in: Net use (press enter)

    What is displayed?

Have your tried rebooting both machines?

The answer to your last question, yes, I've rebooted both machines a lot. However after about 5 hours the computer slows down and sometimes My Computer doesn't work and I have to end process explorer.exe, but most of the time everything works fine except for network drive.

I did what you said and this came up

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner>ping Compaq

Pinging COMPAQ [192.168.2.2] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 192.168.2.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
    Reply from 192.168.2.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

    Reply from 192.168.2.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

    Ping statistics for 192.168.2.2:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner>Net use
    New connections will be remembered.

    Status Local Remote Network

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK Z: \\Compaq\SharedDocs Microsoft Windows Network
    The command completed successfully.

This was after I reboot the computer. Is the problem fixed now?

Much thanks for the responses that you gave.

Ignore the following if what you did is good to go.

Xp home is not my fortè (if that is a word)... :)

When said issues come up, what happens when you type in:

Start, run, type in: \\192.168.2.2 (press enter).

Does the share show? What I'm trying to get at, is you might want to do the following instead....

START, RUN, type in CMD press enter.

    net use z: \\computername /persistent:yes

if it says, z: already exists, then type in:

    net use z: /delete

    then try again.

I'm more familiar with xp pro, then home, also, more familiar with "dos" commands than the GUI.

If you use the net use command to create a drive mapping but the mapping operation is interrupted before it completes, the drive letter may become inaccessible. If you then try to map the same driver letter again, you receive a "Local device name is already in use" error message.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
