    Hi,
I am completely new to this site, so please bear with me.
For some time now, I have been receiving the following message on my laptop:
    "ehtray.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\system32\HID.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error."
As a result, I cannot obtain new updates for Vista.
If anyone can help me solve this problem, I would be very appreciative.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hey Zeev welcome to geeks,

Open a command prompt and type
This may take 20 mins or so to complete.

If it finds and fixes any erors it will list them.

    :)

Let us know if this doesn't help and ill see what else i can recommend.

    Thanks, Q,
I did what you said but received the following message:
"You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility."
I don't quite follow that, as it is my laptop and I'm the only user.
    Any adivce?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Ze'ev:)

    Hi Q,
The scan ran but then I got this message:
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some fo them. Details are included in the CBS.log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"
    Don't know what to do.

ehtray.exe is part of Microsoft eHome, used on Media Center PCs
as fas as I'm aware only XP had a media edition.
Did you do an upgrade from XP to Vista?

As far as the CBS.log, I've seen suggestions to delete it and do another sfc /scannow and if you get the same result to do a Vista repair.

Hey plodr - Vista has the "media centre" built in to "home premium" and "Ultimate"...
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/media-center.aspx

Good call though as if it is an upgrade OS that is a possible cause.

And Zeev make sure to run that scan again like plodr said, [maybe run it a few tmes] and you could try it in safemode [tap F8 as you boot up] and if it is still bad attach the log to your next post.

See here if you need help to attach the log --> http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880

BTW, you will probably have to right click to run as admin again.
