I have the Google Redirect malware since last Thursday. I think I may have received it because I was testing various screen capture Firefox Add-ons (since uninstalled) and subsequently when I am at certain websites (such as a news site) and click on a link the next page will either hang at a Google Analytics URL or actually go to a different website. This is even though I have Spybot, Commodo and (at the time) a Trend Micro product running. And whatever Windows security has as well. It seems to be in effect mostly in Firefox and sometimes in IE. It also prevents me from logging into Gmail (but I've stopped trying to access it because of this security problem and changed my password on another computer).

I've gone through the Malware cleaning steps for Windows 7 from the Read Me First, installed and run SuperAntiSpyware. I already had Malware Bytes and scanned (all updated of course). These packages found Tracking Agent cookies and also a couple Trojans that were in old downloaded install files (removed) for a program I haven't had installed in months.

I would much appreciate help as browsing is very annoying right now. I would be so grateful I would donate to your charity of choice in thanks.

I'm attaching some of the logs requested (some since I am running 64-bit and some of the requested programs don't work on 64-bit).

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now reboot and run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

thanks for following up. I created the reg file but it is giving me the error:

Cannot import C:\User\User\Desktop\fixME.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

I'll start regedit and see if I can do this another way.

So as I was looking through regedit I went to the first entry in that .reg file you wanted me to create. And lo and behold I see that there are a couple strange IPs in the DHCPNameserver value:

213.109.65.27 (which I see goes to Russia)

address: Russia, Nizhniy Novgorod, Pecherskiy syezd 22, off.12
    person: Nikolay N. Filimonov
address: Russia, Nizhniy Novgorod, Pecherskiy syezd 22, off.12
    phone: +7 831 4284242
    nic-hdl: NF1275-RIPE
    source: RIPE # Filtered
    mnt-by: MNT-PROLITE

    213.109.75.32
    1.1.1.1

    goes to the same place.

I suppose that I should blank out all the values for those entries?

Yes, you can do it that way. Are you sure you saved the reg.fix as "all files"?

With that information I spoke to my administrator who has blocked that IP. He got me to release and renew my IP and now when I look at the DHCNameserver value it is back to our own IP. I'm now running some scans and am going to test my browsing. I'll come back when I see if I have something to report. Thank you for your help so far.

    Good to know.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
