Looks like my copy of Diablo 3 left Memphis tonight. Should have it Wednesday at the latest. Been looking forward to this game for a while. Hope it was worth the $ and the wait. :-D

It will be a nice change of pace from wow for me.

D3 looks good, but I just wish it didn't need a constant internet connection to play. It'd be nice to be able to play a little solo "offline" should I choose or be somewhere that internet is not available.

  6. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Yes, I did not know it required constant interweb. I like being able to play offline if the interweb goes out.

Brown Santa dropped off the game around 3:30. I did not realize a DCD/CD drive could work for CD's and not DVD's. Tried an old IDE DVD player, no luck. It seems like I disabled IDE on my MB long ago. Found another SATA DVD drive. Dang this thing installs ssssllllloooooowwwww.....

I don't know if I have a bad DVD drive or what. Has been installing for over 15 mins and is at like 12%. I just want to play the game! :-D

Hahaha, like windows 95 on floppys!!

Personally, I think I am going to download the hack for it when it comes out so I can play offline. We all know there will be one. Ubisoft's always on DRM for AC was cracked in under a week.

I really do understand why they are doing it. Since there now is an auction house, and one that accepts real money, doing so helps against duping, money exploits, hacking, etc. and keeps the auctions balanced. I don't want to exploit, I just travel for my job from time to time and want access to enjoy it.

Supposedly it doesn't require much on an internet connection to play, and most anywhere i have time to play games i have internet, so meh, even at summer camp we have a 10 meg connection and we are pretty middle of no were lol.

Well, so far, I like it. I am not impressed with it, but like it.

If any of you want to get a group together, let me know.

  11. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Well, my internet is up. Battlenet is down. So I can't play Diablo now. Rock on. I can't play a single player game, when your server is not available.

This is not giving Battle net a good rating.

  12. Colemanguy

    Colemanguy MajorGeek

Just keep trying, its up and down, im up for a group when its back up if you want.

  13. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Cool as far as the group games, but got to love the fail of battlenet. I mean, they only have 20 years of experience. And they can't get it to work on day one.

    Yay??

    Rock on Battlenet. :(

Actually the funny thing is, with the bnet issues, wow has been having battlenet problems too.

I'm afraid that time has passed, it seems any game that releases without an online component get slammed in reviews.

I have no issues with games having online options and yes , some games rely more on the online part.
But this "Must be connected at all times" thing seems to be becoming more popular and so far has failed at almost every turn.
Ask UbiSoft after Assassins Creed 2, the epic fail that cost Ubisoft millions in compensation.
Dead Island is another one, it caught me off guard at first because I didn't know it was an open online world, so to me, everything that moves in an enemy, so when I saw the first online player warp into my game in front of me, I went medieval on his arse :-D

As for Diablo 3, I have little interest n playing it, not really my type of game and from what I'm seeing in videos it has very little visual wow factor.
I think I'll stick to Skyrim.

  16. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Gloozit, D3 has single player options. You just have to be online to play it. I suspect it is an attempt to prevent the hazed items and such that was bad on D2. I see they have an online 'store' type things where people can sell items they find in D3 to other people. Sounds like they are trying to cash in on the people with deep pockets who will just buy stuff instead of finding it in the game. Not too sure on how the store works, have not checked it out.

I still remember that when i was a tiny teenager, i spent a couple of hours playing diablo 2 everyday.

I do not why i was obsessive with this game. I just can't stop it. BUT now i quit the games becasue of my graphic card was burned down after 9 consecutive hours game play. I wish i would have a super graphic card cooler at that time.

    Now, prepare well for 3!

My two sons got me the game so I could play with them online. I got great kids! :major This has been an awesome birthday for me :)

About an 8gb download via Battlenet, but it's a heck of a fun game to play! An HD4870 card rocks this game, by the way. My new system is a i5 2400 CPU on an ASUS P8P67 deluxe motherboard, with the 4870 card. I love the graphics in the game, and the overall play is seamless and fast.

Did notice Battlenet was offline the other day when I went to play it :confused

    Lovin' this game!!

DIII is pretty good. I get some lag all along. I guess because it is partially online.

I like it in that I can walk way from it. Its something I can hack on whenever I have 15-20 minutes to spare and not get caught up in it.

My wizard is overpowered, by the way. Every couple of minutes when my cooldown is up, I have an "I WIN THE ENTIRE MAP" button :p

And their servers are still down. Over 12 hours of no DIII. Rock on Blizzard. I did find this little jewel in the Blizzard forum.

I get lag almost every time I play. The game just freezes for 10 seconds to a minute. Very annoying. I really wish they had a true single player option.

I don't get it. I never really played Diablo but with all the buzz I gave it a shot 2 days ago. The levels are as exciting as Wolfenstein 3D. Having recently found Wolfenstein 3D in your browser it reminded of the same long tunnels that all look the same so you easily get lost and backtrack to find out where you need to be. You click repeatedly to go forward or hold the mouse button down (ow), then click, click, click, click, click, click to kill monsters until you get to a boss at which point you have to Google to find out how to beat the boss. My wrists are killing me. It's World of Warcraft... Without the World. The graphics are simply fair and almost dated, I really am not too excited about anything I have seen here. I am level 8 or 9 and just got to the first boss that killed me and frankly I don't know if I will play it again.

Am I missing something, what's the fascination with this game?

I do not think it will appeal to new players. For me, it holds copious amounts of nostalgia. Diablo 3 reminds us of a simpler time. I played D1, D2, D2 Expansion, and now this. I do not feel Blizzard gave D3 enough content, and they tried to give it too many MMORPG aspects. However I still enjoy it.

I look at it like this. If someone brought out a new Tribes game, reminiscent of Starseige Tribes (that was the best one), it wouldn't attract many new players.

However fans of the franchise would jump on it. I know I would.

I am a bit disappointed in the graphics and the overall game. Diablo 2 and the expansion added so much more than Diablo had, I really thought it would be much better.

I will probably finish all the levels in the game, and then not play it much. I made many different characters in DII.

  32. Spad

    Spad MajorGeek

I think with me it is largely nostalgia . . . the original Diablo was among the first games that my sons and I played together (that and "Celtic Kings: Rage Of War" which I still play).

I've been pretty impressed with the graphics, but then I'm not a hardcore gamer like others are. If the kids hadn't bought me the game, I wouldn't be playing it. I've also not suffered the lag that Fred_G has. The gameplay is a lot like WoW, tis true. I also like it because, like someone else here has said, it's a handy time-killer. Not so indepth you hate to leave it, but not boring either. Although the more I play it I find some parts of it do get a bit repetitious.

  33. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

The lag is a special gift to me from Blizzard. :-D

I have not had any lag in the last few days. Have any of you gone to the Auctions? People have listed some things at 6,000,000 gold... WT... They must be using the auction house as additional storage. If I remember right, you can keep 50 items in your auction site after they are not sold in an auction. Or you can transfer them back to your stash.

  34. Spad

    Spad MajorGeek

Bought a sword at the auction. Didn't consider the storage potential of it, though . . . hmmmm.

Makes sense . . . if you put a ridiculous amount on something it's gonna stay there.

  35. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Spad, you should try selling stuff in the auction. I have sold a bunch of rare items and magical items. If they sell for over 200 gold in the game, you can usually get 800 or more in auction. They do charge you 15% if it sells, but if it does not, no charge. And why they charge 15% of something that does not exist, I don't know. I guess to set the scene for the real money auction house. :cool

  36. Nedlamar

You just said everything I've been thinking about D3, except you bought the game to find out, so I thank you for reaffirming my suspicions.
I based my unplayed opinion on Dragon Age Origins, that endless seemingly random clicking with no aim or real intent.

To all those who waited 75 years for D3, hope you enjoy it, only way I'll be playing it is if it comes free with Elder Scrolls 6 :-D

Diablo 3 just broke my heart. Had such high hopes for the game. I got lucky, They gave me a refund even though I had a level 60 monk. I was shocked, and surprised to say the least.

Diablo 3 has turned into a pay to win game. To get the best gear, hello auction house cause you will never get the drops or find it in the game.

I am looking forward to torch light two, and in a year or so grim dawn. I will never pre order another blizzard game. I will wait and see how the game is before I buy. Got so lucky I got my refund. Many of late are being denied.

Diablo 3 is simply still a beta type game. While I hope they get the issues worked out, Not holding my breath. People are leaving and quitting the game in droves. Makes me sad.

  48. Fred_G

In my experience, DIII is OK. Released more as a beta as stated above. And definitely becoming a pay to win game. I don't mind 'buying' stuff with gold in the game, but will sure as heck not pay real $ for stuff in the game.

And some of the prices for the stuff... Crazy. Hmm, Sacred 2 was released in 2009, I had forgotten about that game. Might be worth the $10 or so to try it out. Sacred was a pretty good game back in the day.

  49. Colemanguy

    Colemanguy MajorGeek

Pay to win? You dont have to buy stuff with real cash to win. Just get to 60 and run groups with your friends for drops. Diablo never was the game to hand you items, you have to work for them, *shrug* i have been enjoying it with friends.

  50. thisisu

    thisisu Malware Consultant

I'm not sure what you mean by pay to win either. The nice drops that you see on auction house were posted by other players. It's not impossible for you to obtain nice drops without having to purchase them (for gold or real money).

I'm currently level 59 and my only complaint so far is that you are limited on the amount of items (10) you can sell on the gold auction house at any given time.
