Hi peeps, i'm thinking of getting a new PC
    Specs:
    Manufacturer : LogiQ
    Intel Quad Core E6600processor (2.4Ghz)
    2048Mb DDR2 RAM
    500Gb HD
    19in TFT flat panel monitor
    DVDRW dual layer
    Nvidia 512Mb 8500GT graphics
    Digital/analogue TV tuner and remote
    Vista Home Premium
    Price £999 catalogue HP
I know i,m paying over the odds because its from a catalogue on HP but i can handle that. What i would like to know is the processor really a quad core?I've been googling for hours and the impression i get is the processor is a dual core duo.I,m a gamer so i like the sound of the GC. Do i need a Quad Core? Will this PC last for up to the minute games? Any help/thoughts appreciated. :confused

I think the Quad is just a title for the processor. I am quoting someone else's response to a thread I read here. There is no such puppy as a true Quad processor (x4), at least I believe that is the case. Others will have more information I am sure. Graphics Card should be all right for new games, but they are always evolving and upgrades do become necessary over time. It should last for awhile anyways. Looks like a good computer to me, though I do not know the price change to dollars.

Hi there mate sounds like a good spec to get i have a few games on pc i had a dual core which was great but now i have the Q6600 quad core and it truly is a tool i can leave all my programs running/downloading/scanning etc and i can play Call Of Duty 4 without a single twitch and which a good enough graphics card you can get some serious HiDef stuff running i have have a media network in my house which has a LG 50inch plasma as my atatched monitor and man is it cool!!
so go for it get a quad core it really is good for multi processor it shares its usage amongs various taskes so you will find the cpu usage on your task manager stays at a minimum amount!
Sorry for the long thread but i had to say it ! Heres my spec:

    XP Media Centre Edition
    Q6600 2.66 Quad Core 8mb L2 Cache 1066FSB
    3Gb Dual Chl DDR2 RAM
    Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L 1333FSB
    250Gb WD Caviar HDD x 3
    320Gb Barracuda HDD
    80Gb Barracuda HDD
    Geforce 8 512Mb Pci-e DVI HDTV

Yeah i got it a bit cheaper but all the other stuff connected in the house i must have spent stupid! amounts but i love and it drives me missus crazy! but she dont complain when she watches films and stuff on the tv it was a spankin deal! 1080i with a PC really puts HD games and films to the test let me know if you ever want help with stuff i dont really have many mates with an equivelant addiction to PC`s they all have older systems but i am trying to convert them so to speak LOL!

No problem anytime! but i forgot to say find out what motherboard that system has first as its always handy to keep in mind wheather you can upgrade the RAM or Cpu a good thing to check is wheather it will take 1333FSB cpu in the future theres nothing worst than finding out you brought a good PC then find when its not enough anymore you cant speed the bleddy thing up!!
Just a heads-up i know what some of these pre-built sytems are like!

    Have a shop around!

So this really is a Quad Core -- I mean, 4 CPUs? Just checking because I am trying to figure what to do for another system too.

yes the q6600 has 4 cores :) and yes it rocks in gaming and multi tasking :)but the 6600 is only 2.4 not sure what 2.66 one is listed as

I agree with ibbonkers if it is a Q6600, it is a quad core CPU. Here is a pict of mine folding on all 4 cores... :D

Overclocks pretty good also, with aftermarket cooling, mine is at 2.79GHz, I have seen a lot of folks hitting 3.something GHZ. 4 x 3GHZ... 12GHZ in one box is just insane to me..

Yes it works like if you are doin a burn and listening to music it will share the work load over the 4 processors so but the E6600 is 2.4Ghz x 4 and the Q6600 is 2.66Ghz i could not afford the Extreme version but i think this is the best thing since sliced bread i too was worried about it because it still says it is 2.66Ghz which made me think. Its a low voltage processor so it dont use mush power and its easy to stay cool not much need to overclock as it damn fast already and with the right RAM and grapgics card it can do pretty well!

Hey Fred_g what the hell are you running to fold all 4 cpu`s to 100%!!

I'm not purchessing the computer i was thinking of getting at the start of the thread. I wanted more info on it like motherboard and make of all the other hardware bits. Can i get hold of the company? , can i :crap. I tried their helpline and the number was not recognised:banghead, ummmm sounds dodgy to me. If they do not want to be able to speak to prospective customers then their not getting my money. Phew rant over.:tas

Would a quad core, or anything more than a duo core, mostly be worth it only for gaming, or would it also be worthwhile if you do a lot of digital image processing, in addition to office type applications?

I use mine not just for games but i into guitar playing and i different music writing software and that need quite a bit of processing due to the amount of layers and that run perfectly whilst i burn discs and use video editing software all at once its soooo stable compared to my old AMD i had! well worth it!
