My CompTIA A+ certification comes due next month and that got me thinking of other certifications I might want to look into later in life.
Are there any specific certifications that would allow me to work on stuff that has a warranty in a general sense, like one from Microsoft , or is it broken down by company? Like, Dell has their own certification to work on their warranties, and HP would have a different one?"
    Thanks,

Well, no expert here, but it seems computer repair is going more like repairing TV's did when I was a kid. When I was young, if the TV broke, you called the repairman and he fixed it, under warranty or you paid him. Now, if it dies, people usually buy a new one, or it under warranty it goes back to the maker.

I would look into some networking certs. I don't see the internet going away anytime soon! CISCO has a pretty well known program.

Maybe find a large company in your area and talk to the head of their IT department and see what they are looking for.

    Good luck!

    Hi Spocky

Damn good question and apart from the CompTIA+ you have many others are OEM specific as in Dell, HP etc and maybe worth exploring

A Microsoft MCP https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-gb/microsoft-certified-professional.aspx could be a worthwhile option as well.

I do think though if this is your own business and a local one that your CompTIA+ is all you basically need, the main thing is experience and good reviews of your work, so a good website is a given to not only promote yourself but also to have customer feedback.

I agree with Fred, in network certs are good but more so if you want commercial jobs opposed to general PC users.
