Someone sent me a document written in his MS Word XP. I edited it in my WordPerfect 12 (MS Word mode) and sent it back. Now his Word program has gone all squirrelly. (He can't always open it. When he can open it it behaves erratically. More stuff he's sent me is missing all the aprostrophe-t's and -s's. Strange things like that!) and all of his documents he'd written from before this are listed as "modified." Does anyone know what's happened, and how he can fix it?

The one that you sent back first, can you save it in .rtf (Rich Text Format) and resend it back to him? :confused

Hi, Mickey. Thanks for responding. I suppose I could send it back now as RTF, but I'm wondering why, if I sent it back originally in MS Word, it would create havoc with his Word program, and modify his previously existing documents? And most importantly, what can he do to fix the problem?

Not sure if this will help, but I posted it in another thread. And may help with specific files. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it.

    Open up Word.
On the File Menu, click Open.
In the LOOK IN list, click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the file that you want to open.

In the folder list, locate and open the folder that contains the file.
Select the file that you want to recover. NOTE, select it, but do not open it.

Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open And Repair.

    Mickey,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. You've posted a way of tackling the problem that no one else has mentioned. I will certainly pass it on to my friend. He's out of the country right now, and is somewhat skittish about making any changes to his programs or files while he's away from his installation disk. He'll work on the problem when he gets back in a couple of weeks, and I think your solution is something he'll want to try.

    Thanks again!
