Shop at Home and others - help remove please?

I'm helping fix a computer, that had Shop at Home and a few other toolbars. The user did do one very smart thing, there was a fake Microsoft Security Essentials browser window that she didn't click on, which also popped up fake confirmation windows after trying to stop the program in Task Manager too, but I think that just averted further infections. (I guess this maybe coincidence or maybe not, but the actual antivirus installed really is Security Essentials... the fake warnings had IE logos in the taskbar, and the legit Security Essentials logs confirmed that the messages were not real).

In addition, I'll mention one ther thing that bothers me: IPCONFIG/FlushDNS returns "could not flush teh DNS Resolver case: Function failed during execution". Earlier, (not doing it any more), ipconfig/all showed a few errors while running too.

My MGTools scan is acting up, but in a different way from the description: It mostly appears to be completing, but isn't liking creating the zip file. I also encountered an error related to process.dll. What I'm doing here, in the hopes it provides what is needed, is a manually created zip file of the contents of the c:/MGTOOLS folder.

    Thanks in advance!

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

    • [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKLM\[...]\Run : ShopAtHomeWatcher (C:\Users\John Everyday Use\AppData\Roaming\ShopAtHome\ShopAtHomeHelper\ShopAtHomeWatcher.exe) [7] -> FOUND

Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
Do not reboot your computer yet.

Now rerun Hitman and have it fix everything it finds.

Reboot and rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman and attach those new logs as well.

Be sure to tell me how things are running now.

Ok, instructions followed, as directed, and logs attached.

A couple more questions still. I also have Firefox installed, and I noticed that the changed URL in Firefox was still "ht tp : // us.yhs4.search .yaho o .com/ web/partner? &hsp art=w3i&hs imp=yhs-syct ransfer&type=W3i_SP, 205,0_0,Start Page,20130415,19860,0,8, 0" (The extra spaces in the address, I added to make sure this link isn't clickable by anyone).

Also, perhaps the other items didn't count quite as malware, but I had to go in and disable (in firefox) several items like SearchDonkey and Coupons, Inc.

Over in IE, in the add-ins section, there are still some remnants of some removed items (probably because before posting the first message, I had disabled them). Still in my list of Toolbars and Extensions, are AdPeak (GetSavin), Shop at Home, Webapptech coding (SearchDonkey), and We-Care.com, and with We-Care, there's actually one item (We-Care reminder class) that I can't Disable the normal way. So I'm just asking, as it pertains to all these. I'd rather not have to see any of them, though.

Finally, where's my Hosts file over in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc? Just curious, I don't see it. A while back I had copied the well known MVPS hosts file over, and I may have reverted to the standard file. I doublechecked that I was showing system and hidden files, but oddly, there doesn't seem to be a hosts file present at all.

Thanks very much, by the way. Uploading the logs now. Other than the questions above, the computer seems to be running fine.

Rerun Hitman and have it remove all of those PUP's.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Now:
Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Users\John Everyday Use\AppData\Roaming\ShopAtHome\ShopAtHomeHelper

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

OK, sorry for the delay. Haven't had a chance until today to mess with any of it.

    • It looks like everything's pretty much removed, no signs of the former browser helpers or anything else.
    • The registry update was successful
    • Logs attached.

    Thanks again!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link
