i was referred to your site by a friend of mine and gone through the required steps of eliminating a virus that i seemed to have gotten. i recieved the virus becuase i was running a trail version of panda software and was trying to update it to platinum. in the time i had it turned off to update it someone sent me a bad link. all of a sudden everyone on my aim instant messenger was recieveing messages from me that i wasnt sending. then it all went to hell. .......(rises from the ashes) now. i have loaded all of the suggested scans and done everything u asked. but for some reason the virus has done something to all my exe's. and wont let me turn off system restore. (not good im thinking) aslo when i tried to reinstal programs that were once messed up once i restart its like i never did it. when i reboot i get a message that says "16 bit ms dos subsystem" and a folder open. dont know what this is at all. since then ive tried to put panda platinum 2005 back on to help with the virus but keep getting me the message " error installing ikernel.exe " so i contacted panda and they sent me something that was supposed to help me uninstall it. long story short it didnt work. and im at a loss. please somebody anybody HELP!!!! If this forum, is saying you have adaware to remove, then yes, remove it first, then try your panda install.

Often times when the installation of an Anti-Virus program fails, it is almost always caused by a virus. Please post a HijackThis log as an ATTACHMENT, and I'll have a look at it.

I think they are talking about the programs they used in Spyware.

REO, I asked you to post the log as an ATTACHMENT. Your system is infected.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    In the SPYWARE SPECIFIC FORUM

I moved this thread to the Spyware Forum for you. In addition to what Shadow_Puter_Dude gave you to do. Run this: EliteToolbar Remover

If you already ran the READ ME, you don't need to do it again. You just need to run and attach HJT logs properly.

    Download
    - Pocket Killbox

In HJT Choose Open the Misc Tools Section choose Process Manager, Highlight:
    Choose Kill Process
Now scan and have HJT Fix the following:
    Now run Pocket Killbox:
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click OK.

Run Killbox.exe. Paste the below filenames into KILL BOX one at a time. Check mark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot. Note many of the file list below may not exist but we need to check for them anyway.
If Killbox does not reboot or you get a Pending Operations type error message just reboot your PC yourself.

    Now boot into SAFE MODE

    Open
Windows Explorer navigate to and DELETE the following:

    - Download this trial version of Ewido Security Suite
    • Install ewido security suite
    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will have a window come up. One of the buttons on the left is to Update. Click the Update button.and then Start the Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • After it completes the update, click the Scanner button

Now exit Ewido. Now print the below instructions or save them locally because I want you do have no browsers opened and also have no connection to the internet (unplug your cable) while doing the below.

Okay, reboot into safe mode and follow the steps below. (If you have any problems at all trying to get into safe mode to complete these steps, just run them in normal boot mode and make sure you tell me when you come back.)

Open up Ewido and do the following:

    • Click on Scanner
    • Then click Settings
    • Under What to Scan? Select Scan every file
    • Then click OK
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.
    • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files that are infected. Leave the defaults selections (to Remove and backup) and click OK. To save yourself some time, you can select Perform action with all infections and then click OK. With the option to scan every file, a lot of cookies will be removed.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop or anyplace you will be able to find it to upload here.
Reboot into normal mode and reconnect to the internet.

    - Run HJT and save the log.

Now Post both logs as attachments.

first off thanks for your help ......

alright i did everything u asked.
i ran into a few problems though. i never saw the "lockx.exe" or the "pokapoka70.exe" in the process manager.

when i tried to search to delete those few files in windows explorer it said there was an error. wouldnt let me search. but i did find the windows update folder and deleted it.

i got this message when i ran killbox " Unexpected error occurred!
Error #52 (Bad file name or number) in Sub GetLongPath(lockx.exe).

Please send a report to merijn@spywareinfo.com, mentioning what you were doing, and what version of Windows you have."

but other than that everything went fine
    here are both logs

    thanks again

I didn't notice this the last time, you do not have HijackThis installed as requested. You are running it form this location: C:\Documents and Settings\ramone\Desktop\HijackThis.exe; please install HijackTHis to C:\Program Files\HJT.

After you have done that run HJT again and post a fresh log as an attachment.

What is wrong with your IE installation? HJT can't find it. IF you unistalled it, reinstall SP2 to install IE6 on to your system. IE6 is tightly integrated into the OS and removing it will cause serious stability problems.

    Have HJT fix the following:
Reboot and Post a fresh HJT log.

OK, the O13 lines are still there.

Please run Panda Online Scan. After the scan attach the log to your next post. Also please follow the below:

1 - Please EXTRACT all files from Qoologic Tool to its own folder - C:\Program Files\QoologicFinder . Then, DoubleClick Find-Qoologic.bat to run the tool. It should produce a log - Please attach that with your next post!

2 - Please EXTRACT all the files form RKFiles Tool to its own folder named C:\Program Files\RKTOOL. Then, Please boot to SAFE MODE and DoubleClick rkfiles.bat to run the tool. Let it run and then, when it finishes, look for a log at C:\Log.txt and please attach that log.

Now come back here and post all three logs as attachments and a fresh HJT log. You will have to do 2 posts to post all 4 logs.

TIP: HJT will more than like not be able to fix the Prefixes. You will more than likely need to do something like the below.

Copy the contents of the below Quote Box to Notepad. Then click File and then Save As. Change the Save as Type to All Files. Name the file fixPRE.reg and then click save. (make sure you save it somewhere you can find it. Saving it to your Desktop may make that easy.) Then double-click on the fixPRE.reg file on your desktop (or locate it with Windows Explorer and double click on it if not saved to the Desktop) and when it prompts to Add in to the registry, say yes.
