   Adware is a malware (virus) that will affect your PC but more do this via trying to fool the user into thinking that some software is real.
   
   have a good read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware
   
   But if you keep your security software, 3rd party, and operating system fully up to date they yoy lessen the risk.
