    Hi Majorgeeks! :)

I was browsing Photobucket when I saw an icon appear in my taskbar. A box popped up saying my computer was infected and another box showing all the "infected files." I immediately knew a rogue anti-virus program was being installed and probably trying to do further damage. The program wouldn't let me exit, it kept throwing error messages at me so I rebooted my computer. Upon reboot, I could not load up windows explorer, or any folders for that matter. I would get an error that would say "explorer.exe is infected!" After trying a few times I was able to run Malwarebytes but I could not update the malware definitions on any of my virus/malware programs, it would not let me connect to the internet. Luckily, Malwarebytes picked up a big part of the problem. I removed them successfully and then had to restart because my taskbar was glitching with about 9,000 red x icons. After rebooting again, I still was unable to update any of my virus or malware database files from the programs themselves, but I was able to connect to the internet through Firefox. I went through the "Run and Read Me" and some programs picked up a few more files.

I was on Photobucket yesterday when Avast! detected a problem and I was able to abort the connection. I thought it might have been a rare occurrence because I've always considered Photobucket a safe and secure photo-sharing website... Not anymore. :( Against my better judgment I went on again today to search for a user icon to use on a website and the rogue program got through to my computer. I think it was one of the advertisements on the side...

I have attached all of the files below. I also ran Spybot and Avast after going through the Read Me. Spybot picked up a few tracking cookies and Avast didn't find anything. The old MBAM file that will be attached in the next post is the one I had to run before I could update the virus databases if you need to look at what it found. The one in the post is the one with the newest definitions.

Please help me out and thank you so much for your time! I'm looking forward to your reply. :)

Your logs are clean. We can remove some junk, but that is all I am seeing. Let's just do this:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures ian step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hey TimW! :D

The no names found with HijackThis were corrected, I got the success message when I added to the registry with fixME.reg, and I completed all the other steps.

Thank you so much again! I think everything is okay now. :)
