    help my computer states windows could be missing a file or corrupt windows system32 config system. tried to do the hole f8 thing did not work it asked for start up cd but i do not have one lost god only knows where what can i do next? <snipped out email address>

    To repair windows files if F8 doesn't work, you need a windows CD. You have thtree choices: borrow one from a friend (if you run XP Home, it has to be XP Home also), buy a CD from eBay or contact your computer manufacturer and see if they sell recovery CDs since you lost yours and the hd is not accessible.
