Compaq Presario problem.

Hi,Can anybody help with this problem,the laptop belongs to my brother he said he was surfing the net when the screen went blue and 2 thick lines appeared down the screen,which made the computer lock up so he had to pull the power when he tried to reboot it went for the Compaq welcome screen then to the Windows xp boot screen then switched it's self off,he then tried again but this time the blue power light came on but nothing happened you could hear the fan on the power supply but that stops after about 5 seconds but nothing came up on the screen.He brought it to me today so i switched it on first nothing then second time it booted up as normal,thinking he may have picked up a Virus i ran the antivirus but before it finished the screen went haywire (blocky and pixilated) so tried to reboot but nothing just blue power light not even the light to say it is booting from harddrive.At first i thought it might be the harddrive (bad sectors and all that) but now begining to think it might be Motherboard as you dont even get a chance to enter the BIOS.
I would be very grateful if anybody could advise me on this problem and does anybody no of any website where i could download a repair manual for this Laptop,Many thanks in advance.



Compaq Presario 2100,AMD Athlon XP processor,ATI Mobility Radeon Graphics,256ddr ram, Windows XP Home edition
(This is as much as i know at present).

 

Do you still have a warrenty for the Laptop???

Because it might be an LCD Problem or Video Card, doubt its Motherboard.

Sorry as far as i know there is no warranty left on this laptop,
But as for the LCD or Video card i would have thought you should still hear the HDD booting but there is no sound or lights flashing after the fan stops after about 5 seconds into boot up only the blue power light stays on.
But i bow down to your superior knowledge i'm only used to desktop pc's and i know laptops are a totally different kettle of fish.

Does anything show up on the screen when you first turn on the computer???

 

No sorry nothing what so ever.

 

My suggetion is to contact Compaq's Technical Support and let them know of the problem. There is nothing I can do to help, sorry.
