I try and open up IE and I get the standard message "unable to load page..yada, yada, yada" and at the bottom of the IE page, in the status bar it has the message "ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm#" and I went to google and looked all over for fixes and i tried EVERYTHING from uninstalling/reinstalling IE, HOSTS editing, running adaware, spysweeper, safemode among other attempts and nothing.

Also its important to mention that this all started when I tired to access the internet and come to find out my network card couldnt give out a ip address after I tried to ping and renew the ip I got a similiar error, so I was ABLE to fix that by going into the registry and deleting and fixing the winsock files, then renewed the ip at the cmd screen. So with that successfuly down Im able to get a internet connection and can access my email via outlook and get on to Itunes and things like that but as stated above I cannot get any webpages from IE. I even tried to install firefox and that doesnt work either. This has been going on for weeks and I desperatly need help! I can run HjT but obviously cant come here to upload it but can save it to disk and put it on if need be, just let me know what I should do and I will cooperate to the letter.

P.S. I have read with this error message its one of two things, either my firewall (which i know its not) or malware infection which it can only be.

Are you an expert in the Windows Registry and do you understand everything about the LSP chain and TCP/IP sockets? If not, you should not have been manually editing your registry. Any current problems you have may be due to what you have done in the registry.

How do you know it is not related to your firewall?

And why do you thing it is malware if you already ran scans? Yes it could be cause by malware and I will give steps to follow below which will help us determine either way.

If may be due to registry corruption or a broken TCP/IP stack. Try running this:

    XP TCP/IP Repair

If the above does not help, please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

You will have to download these tools using another PC and then transfer them to your broken PC via a CD, USB drive, email them to yourself...etc. Also you will have to do the reverse to get the logs to send back here.

Ok, thank you for your helpful response, let me try answering your questions/comments before I go to the links....

I am not a registry expert and I may have jumped the gun as far as doing that however, after doing that I went to the cmd screen and typed ipconfig/all and saw my ip,dns,etc.. info again and when I booted up my laptop I can access the wireless network and connect that way....thats how Im on here now.

And I know its not my firewall because I had ZoneAlarm Pro and I uninstalled it and tried with the windows firewall on and off and still got the ieframe error, so with that said I cannot figure anything else but some type of infection.

Ill will now try those links and let you know what I get, thanks again!!

In your first message you said you could not use IE or FireFox. Are you now saying that you do have internet access since you say "thats how Im on here now"? Or are you saying you have a wireless network interface and a hardwire interface and that the hardwire interface does not work but the wireless does?

Oh sorry for the confusion, I ment that I have a laptop with a wireless card from work, so I have been bringing that home since my home broadband internet modem is connected to a wireless router...my desktop has and continue to have the problem mentioned above.

If you need help determining whether you are having malware problems or not, you must follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME all the way up to and including the step where it tells you to attach the requested logs. Without the logs we cannot help you any further. All I can say at this point is you may not even be having malware problems.
