I have a Windows XP and it is homebuilt. I now have no sound and was attacked by Bravesentry Trojan Just before I lost the sound. Windows was already installed before loss of sound.
I checked the folder and it says that there is no audio device. I went into properties and checked all the items in there and all of them say that they are working ok. BUT the puter can't find the device.
I have tried to reinstall drivers and still no sound.
I have: ATI technologies 30 RAGEPro AGP 2X; Intel (r) 83271AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller; 3Com Etherlink 10/100 PCI TX NIC(3C905B-TX); Intel(r) 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller;Audio Codecs; Legacy Audio Drivers; ES1869 control Interface (WDM); ES1869 Plug and Play Audio Drive (WDM). I hope that helps you in some way! I sure can use the help!!!
    Thank you! ;)

Three suggestions (question first ....did you remove the trojan successfully?)
First is check that the system is free of malware :
    Panda online active scan
    http://www.activescan.com

If clean try start / run / type "sfc /scannow" without qoutes ...have your xp disc ready.

    If panda finds stuff:
Read and run first - Malware section
