My fater-in-law has a Compaq laptop. He also has a Gateway desktop PC with a Zoom X ADSL modem. He cannot get a wireless signal from the modem on his laptop. What has to be done to get this signal. It was my impression that it should be automatic. There are no problems with the connection on the PC.
If you need further information let me know.

    Thank you,

Check the laptop over, there may be a switch to turn on/off the Wireless/Bluetooth card.

What is the make and model of the modem and is the wireless turned on if it has it? A lot of the Actiontec DSL modems that had wireless had the wifi turned off by default.
