Now folks seem to loose support upon the war overseas (me as an american livin` in Europe have ever since it started, been contra), but lets make a deal, and spend your opinion after all this time hearing about americans die almost every day far away from home, in posting it right here. ;)

    endless topic, here we go...

Me as an atheist European can only say that its a positive goal to wipe out all right-extremistic beliefs. And it's getting closer to my home day by day. Our parlament member and possible premier, Pim Fortuyn (shot 2003) was the first to be executed in 200 years. A half year ago, tv producer Theo van Gogh was murdered in public, both by extreem right people. Europe (especially Holland) doesn't even got much to do with the war in Iraq, but we do get threatened by these people with their dark-age lifestyle every day.

    Nelis out.

I said not much, those men did their duty because the UN told them to, our army is part of UN's army.

    Edit:
If our troops aren't stationed there, we will receive less funds and support from the UN. It's all political, you should know, England has been kissing Bush's @ss from the start

England = Blair, no offense all english members ;)

No, you just choose to see it that way. If you look at what's going on in both countries, then you'll see that both actually have ideas, put together.

Possibly, a dangerous thread to start here as there are many views that are different and can lead to arguments.

I know that, and i didn't said that i disagreed with eiter country.
It's just that the way that it appeares in the media is what makes your view right?

better to fight the war on terror over there with trained soldiers than at home with civilians.

but if the people here would prefer to fight it out on american soil i can do that to. with nearly 300million citizens we can spare a few dozen million if need be.

Sadly you are right. He makes me ashamed to be English.

The only comment I will make on the War from an American perspective is that if you look at the actual number of deaths of Service men and women as a result of this, rather than just immediate/instant close quarters battlefield fatalities then ones heart can only go out to so many more families than those whose sacrifice is publically acknowledged.

This whole thing is so tragic, so full of deja vu, I daren't even allow myself to find the words to truly express my outrage.

    Just sayin'

It's definately a touchy topic...but...coming from a great friend that has been stationed over their and came back unscratched, TWICE....It wouldn't be so bad if they would just come up with a plan and get in there...do their crap...and get out...instead of tip toeing around the fire...if everyone would jump in together...you will sufficate the fire...and there will be less people hurt in the long run!!!! That is coming from someone that has participated first hand!!!!

You got to admit though....Even if we were to just all the sudden pull out, NOW...ALL HELL WOULD BREAK LOOSE!! Unfortunately, I think we have to finish what we started, but we need to get our a$$es in gear and get it done!!!!

IMO...Whether you agree or disagree with the war and all it stands for...we have a job that has to be finished...it is too late for everyone to throw down their swords and turn around and go home!!!!

I do admit, but the question IS and will REMAIN cause even "our" "leadership" admits the following question they never dreamt about: How ??

Yeah well, it's better than kissing the butt of every left wing liberal crybaby that even sniffs an agenda. The Dutch do that, and look where it's gotten them. A spit from having the sharia as law.

Many talk about England as being sheeplike in following the Americans into war. But surely, the sheeplike thing to do would have been to follow the rest of the world, led by the French and the Germans in the effort to appease a murdering dictator and allow him to continue destroying a country. We tried that once.

The UN has no Army! The troops that operate under UN control are donated by the member nations, and the UN can only carry out such operations only when the UN Security Council authorizes said actions.

I think you have that backwards, the UN does not give money to nations to station troops anywhere. The member nations pay an annual dues to the United Nations, which the UN then uses to fund the various programs, relief efforts, and peace keeping missions in the world, and only when these missions are carried out under the auspices of the UN. Again some of these are authorized by the General Assembly and some by the Security Council.

The United Nations as a political body has no real power. The UN has no independent economic, financial, or industrial ability and for that matter no standing military to back it's political will. The member nations decide whether or not any given policy/sanction has any real teeth. And since the declared end of hostilities of Desert Storm, the UN has demonstrated that it has no will to hold any of its 'rogue' member nations accountable.

Bull****. The U.N. has never, ever stood up and fought for anything. All they do is issue "resolutions" with no teeth. They had "peacekeepers" on the ground in Rwanda when the atrocities started there, and pulled them out. They were dragged, reluctantly, into approving Desert Storm, which was primarily a U.S. and coalition effort; the U.N. didn't do much of anything there except to give it eventual approval, and limit the mission so that Saddam was still a problem after it was over. They issued something like 14 or 17 (I forget the exact number) of resolutions against Iraq for violations of their terms of surrender, all threatening military action, which they never followed up on. And they were involved in the oil for food scam that helped Saddam fund his military instead of providing food and medicine to his people as it was intended. The U.N. ignored the killing and slavery in the Sudan, ignored atrocities all over the world, is doing nothing for those dying now in Darfur, and on and on. Their record is long and dismal.

Most all of that before George W. Bush was even elected.

Find another excuse for the U.N.

Agreed. The United Nations is worse than useless, in that they give the impression that something is being done and therefore assuage fears of atrocities in the minds of those who believe them.

If its impotence in Rwanda had been realised earlier, others may have taken steps to help stop the violence there.

How anybody can expect consensus on any serious issue between the members of the security council is beyond me.

They should stick to delivering tractors and pencils.

Hear, Hear. The UN is very good at humanitarian relief and such, they should stick to that; otherwise they are pretty useless.

They were useless when there were two. They are useless period. Not because of the US. It's because of the format. You can't get them to agree on anything that has serious consequences for any member of the council, or any ally of any member.

All you for got to say, after you said: they were useless, they are useless; the whole world will stay useless without, no ?

  28. MrPewty

    MrPewty MajorGeek

No, the world has to learn to do without the UN for anything other than humanitarian relief. Africa should have its own united nations, whose troops can be sent in to deal with trouble without the post colonial visuals that seem to upset so many people.

Yes, you did. First you said that it's Dubya's fault that they;re useless. They you say that they are useless because there is only one superpower. Us. Since blaming Dubya didn't work you fall back and blame the U.S. as a whole. You're clueless.

They're useless because half of their members are despots and dictators, and they make no distinction between good and bad governments or members. They put Syria as head of the Security Council and had Libya head a human rights commission. Both despotic human rights abusers. They don't know what evil IS, so they don't have any hope of fighting it.

Any other anti-U.S. sentiments you want to air while we're at it?

I can't believe anyone would consider supporting the UN in anything. I'm not going into a whole rant here, but just look at how many times they have stood idley by & let innocent people be slaughtered. They are nothing more than boyscouts on a campout.

If Tony Blair & George Bush are so bad, then why is it they were both relected?

  37. Olley

    Olley Sergeant

they were both reelected because they spend the most money on their election campaignes.. and the majority of the populations are easily manipulated by flashy advertisements and stupid slogans.. most people dont even know why the vote for whom they vote for.. its rediculous how they put on a big show to advertise themselves (especially Bush) and has absolutely nothing to do with politics.. in the end its just the richer and more in ur face person who wins..not the smarter or wiser person.. its all turning into a simple high school level popularity contest..
    thats what i think anyways

Sadly they cannot even do that right.. take the Tsunami in south east asia at the beginning of the year... it needed the ordinary folk of the world to unite in giving aid out of their own pockets before the UN even took its hands out of theirs!

  39. Seargent Geek

And all the money & goods we spent back then was:

    1. Chosen a little bit from everything, everyone on the way to there.I guess for ex. that the last soldier, who unloaded the packages with supply (food etc.) took a pack for himself and his family, and so on......

2.Finally the money "we" donated, was nothing else, taken to build up all the new hotels etc., and last but not least, packed in the arguement, that we re doing that, so the people on placehave jobs, money and a future. But the only truth is, that everyone involved thinks selfish, and says : " I wanna make more money".

  40. Shadow_Puter_Dude

Pure conjecture on your part. I have no doubt that a portion of the aid never made it to the people it was intended for; such is the nature of despotic governments. I firmly believe that the vast majority of the aid made it to its intended destinations and was distributed to the target demographic. There are dishonest people everywhere, and some of them were or are involved in the ongoing Tsunami Relief.

You have a complete lack of understanding how relief efforts work, the monies donated by the Governments, Corporations, and Individuals throughout the world is not used to rebuild Hotels, Casinos or anything of that nature; that is what insurance and low interest loans are for. How do I know this, because the US Army is the lead agency here in the U.S. for disaster relief, whether they are natural or man-made; and I used to be a part of the Defense Coordinating Element which works with FEMA, the Red Cross and various other organizations to coordinate disaster relief efforts.

And to even suggest that a soldier is taking food from those who need it most is just plain malicious. The soldiers that work these diasters aren't thinking of taking food or whatever for their own families, they are more concerned about those who need it most, and I know this from personal experience having worked several disasters.
