i got a new laptop, but whenever i take out AC power, performance seems to go down a lot, is there any software that can make my laptop run at full speed even without AC power??

That is the power saving feature so your battery will last longer. You can try to adjust the settings in the Power Options in the Control Panel. Or you could try SpeedSwitchXP (not sure if it works in Vista).

and as Fred mentioned, that can all be done by modifying power options in the control panel.
