That link won't work. The shopping cart is based on your user ID and probably uses cookies. Therefore, I can't see anything you put in there. You'll have to individually list everything in your cart.

Or, there might be a wishlist type of thing. At www.newegg.com they have a wishlist that you can make up and everyone else can see it. I don't know if tigerdirect has one or not.

    Hi,

Try pricing your list at zipzoomfly.com or newegg.com, I know both are cheaper on some of those items.

I have one other comment, the psu, if it comes with the case I would plan on buying a different name brand one. Most people building Amd 64 systems myself included report that you need at least 24amps on the 12v rail and generic psu's that come with cases don't have it.

oh ... well what kinda PSU will i need??? and i might as well get a plain ol' regular case then ... umm, and i cant look rite now, im at my friends house and im about to leave, but you kno what specific things that i have in that list that are cheaper on other sites also?

$100 for a PSU? thats more money added up! grrrr lol, alrite then... well you said you have the true power one? 480w? by antec?

Well anything thats a good psu with 450w+ will go over 90$ ;) I have x-connect ultra modular psu 500w ; google it and find some reviews on it.

im lookin at it rite now... it was alot of cables that i never seen before lol for a PSU, but if thats what you suggest ima get that one then, i need more help on the whole computer more then anything

Omegamerc is right they are great psu I have one myself and recomend for amd 64 systems. All the wirers are modular meaning you can plug in only the ones you need, don't worry to much its easy.

The A8V is a socket 939 and the 3400 cpu is socket 754 so you need to pick another cpu or mobo. 754 is cheaper but won't allow for upgrades of the cpu later on. I think the price at zipzoomfly for a 3400+ cpu socket 754 with 1 mb L2 cache is very good.

oh... thats good, and i dont really kno what much about motherboards and which are good or now and if they can take a certain kind of video card and down, so i dont really kno what to do about there

Well I always encourage people to build there own pc's and will help anyway I can, and you can do it, but I think its obvious that you need to do some reading up before you spend your hard earned $. http://www.directron.com/knowledgebase.html

Read all the topics in the above link its a start, search the web for how to guides, and of course look thru Major Geeks Home page not just the forums for info. Look at forum members signatures to see what parts they are using that are similar to the system you want to build and then research each part to see if it will fit your needs.

For instance look at my lower signature, it took about a month of evenings to research each and every part to get exactly what I wanted, what was compatible, what I could afford and about 5 hours to get the system together, up and running without a problem. So research means alot!

I guess what I am try to say is keep asking questions, learn from the answers and make sure you undestand all the parts before you spend your hard earned $

oh... well i just read the article on the motherboard, im pretty sure i kno what its talkin about... so like if the bus speed of the processor im gettin is like say, 400MHz, and the motherboard will only take 300MHz it wouldent work of course rite? and if the bus speed of the processor is like 500MHz and the motherboard will take like 700MHz that would work rite, or does it have to be the same number of as the processor? i mean if the socket number or whatever it rite too, and i must start buying parts! lol i wanna build this thing :p

Ok then have you decided on socket 754 or 939?
Remember 939 cost more but will be better if you want to upgrade the cpu later on.

Do you want a mother board with dual channel memory? Dual channel cost more but you get somewhat better system performance

socket 939 and 754 prices are the same a 3000+ is about 150$ The reason is not within the cost. Socket 939 is dual channel enabled; new 939s have onboard memory controller that enable higher performance on them too. Sockets 754 come with 1mb of on board cache while 939s only come with 512kb; 939 mobos are ONLY dual channel, 754 is never dual channel. Best highest performance 939 mobo nforce3 wise is a msi neo plat 2 for about 130$, nforce4 boards are all hovering about the same price but you need a pci-express card.

    Doby Sergeant

You can get a 754 for under a 100 bucks, he mentioned above he is concerned about cost so if for instance he would go 939 add the cost of dual channel ram and if he would choose pci express the cost could be significant. So the reason to choose one or the other has to do with cost

Would like a link to a 939mobo w/o dual channel, curious to see who would sucker a 939 into performing half arsed. & about the price of a 754/939 like i said ABOUT.;)
PCI express mobos cost almost the same as agp mobos;maybe a slight diff in price "just because" its new tech.

I never said 939 didn't have dual channel

754s mobos don't support dual channel
939s mobos only come with dual channel.

What eles does that mean  .

    Doby Sergeant

I don't get it, I simply ask if he wanted a dual channel board then I would have an idea what to recomend

  22. Omegamerc

    Omegamerc MajorGeek

Why reccomend a 754 though? I think they were shun out with new 90nm winchesters & onboard ram controllers; sure they have 1mb cache but the dual channel+onboard controller is superior to an xtra +512kb L2.

  23. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

Very true, would recommend 754 because of cost but I just looked the 3000+ 939 is down in price below $200 pretty good, remember How I said you have to research this is why, so when/if I did I might have recommended it as one option depending on mobo, ram, pciexpress card costs compaired to a 754 system cost

Oh yea, all amd 64 have intergrated ram controller anyway.

  25. Omegamerc

    Omegamerc MajorGeek

I was under the impression 754s and 90nm 939s were the only one w/integrated controllers...Even if the person's on a budget i'd still tell em to get a slightly lower speed 939 for the price diff; been checking new egg and pci-express cards are 30-40$ cheaper then AGP counter part; I expected different.

Oh yeah and about that mobo for an a64; stay away from K8/VIA mobos; they dont perform as well as nforce3/4's and some have problems with ATI video cards.

Intel has been in the market longer and is (was) more popular then AMD back when k6 was around. Intel is developing its own 64bit core but has had various setbacks because of the heat dissipitation is just too high (i believe it was over 90watts). I think Intel faces 'challenges' only when they present themselves; example they will market their 64bit wafers when wxp goes 64bit because public awareness will be there and they will lose market share to amd 64s. The current problem now like i stated is heat dissipitation from the cores; I asked head amd64 project leader if there was somthing being done about this problem and he said new technologies to remove heat were coming (since 90nm wafers already hit the heat "wall" [cant go speed wise any further]) but he wouldn't comment on it. Leads me to believe each side is making their own new heat removal strategy. I think 2005 rolls in we will see the 64bit era come to play maybe during spring/summer season.

I was also reading around that the next strategy for cpu chips is to have dual cores on single processors(kind of like what SLI is bringing)...but its too early to speculate.

The semperon does not, according to amd's web site 64's do.

Now that I see the recent price on the 3000+ ($180 or something) looks like the way to go. When I priced my system 6 weeks or so ago I would have had to spend at least $350 extra for a 3000+,939 mobo and dual channel ram, guess I should have waited but after reading a review about how the 3400 performed I decided not to . I'll see if I can find it for you.

Man how things change in a few weeks, guess I better read some more reviews.

I have had no problem with Ati and Via but it has become widely accepted that nforce has more features and performs a bit better but also can be harder to set up especially for a beginner.

Thats because Intel don't have to, they have enough of the market right now, but some analist say this is a mistake because different manufactuers like dell, compaq/hp are already working with Amd about 64bit computing. I have also read where you will see increase in 64 bit games in 2005. 64 bit is here to stay, its just a matter of time till it phases in, the quicker it does the better for Amd but the slower it does the better for Intel. I also read were Intel had problems making 64 bit backword compliante with 32 bit but I can't confirm this.
