I will be going along, doing my thing in Google Chrome, for fun or just communicating with family via e-mail; and suddenly the page will do the little revolving circle thing, and I'll get the "unable to load page" box and will be unable to restore the page via the reload link on the page, the address bar, or clicking in the URL box and hitting return.

I had run through your routine yesterday, as well as uninstall and reinstall Java and Flash and Shockwave; and not only did things seem better, but they were faster, as well. Well, today the same problem arose. (I turned the computer off overnight, so maybe it's something that happens at boot-time?)

There was one thing that showed up on one of the scans, but I don't know if it's RogueKiller or MGTools or an actual issue. So, gee, maybe I'll let the experts decide, huh? :)

Oh, there was an issue I turned in about my desktop a month or two ago that you guys moved to software; I asked the person dealing with it to close the thread because my tech-savvy friend decided it was a lost cause (he'd done what your guy had recommended) and that we should get a bigger drive, processor, memory card, Win7 Pro, etc. *sigh* So, I'm not bumping. I'm starting a new issue thread. :)

    My logs are attached.

OMG. Hitman Pro was the one that found something, and I forgot to save the log. I will run it right now and reply to this with the log. CRAP. I hope it still finds the thing. It found something that looks a lot like what's in the sample of "how to use." Shit. Sorry. PLEASE don't delete this. I'll be right back with the log!

Here's the HitmanPro log. Thankfully, it's still showing the same result.

No obvious signs of malware show in any of your logs. They are all clean except for one item of question. I see a unknown partition of about 3.51 GB on your C drive. Do you have know what this small partition is? Your partition info shows the below. The one I question is in red.
    Code:
    Partition Disk #0, Partition #0
Partition Size 39.19 MB (41,094,144 bytes)
    Partition Starting Offset 32,256 bytes
    Partition Disk #0, Partition #1
Partition Size 33.71 GB (36,191,232,000 bytes)
    Partition Starting Offset 41,126,400 bytes
    [COLOR=red][B]Partition Disk #0, Partition #2
Partition Size 3.51 GB (3,767,178,240 bytes)
    Partition Starting Offset 36,232,358,400 bytes[/B][/COLOR]

Also do you have your Windows XP boot disk just in case this is an infected partition?

Um...I honestly have no idea how to identify what is in/on a partition, so I guess my answer would be "no." My friend won't be here until next month unless he makes a special trip, which I don't like to ask him to do. Is there any way you can give me a step-by-step (and I do mean like-she-doesn't-know-how-to-access-the-CMD-screen [even though I do] step-by-step) tutorial on how to see what program/whatever is on a partition?

He said the guy he got this laptop from barely new what the |/O button was for, let alone that he needed a firewall. My friend had to "uninstall all kinds of peskies" when he got it. Such as browser toolbars, weatherbug, etc. So, there's really no telling. I've uninstalled a few things myself that were useless to me. It does have some remnants of AVG that show up every once in awhile.

Oh, and if by "boot disk" you mean the original XP purchase CD; yes, I have it. It's SP2, though, of course.

As always, thanks for your help.

Well due to the fact that you are having connection issues, and the fact that there is no drive letter associated with the partition, and the fact that it has no name on the partition to describe it. This makes me lean towards it needs to be deleted. Additional logs from MGtools give more information about the 2 disk drives in the PC. Notice again what I put in red.
    Code:
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
      -------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---
      Disk 0 Online 37 GB 0 B
      Disk 1 Online 466 GB 0 B

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
      ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------
      Volume 0 D DVD-ROM 0 B
Volume 1 C NTFS Partition 34 GB Healthy System
Volume 2 E NTFS Partition 466 GB Healthy

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.
      Partition ### Type Size Offset
      ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
      Partition 1 OEM 39 MB 32 KB
      Partition 2 Primary 34 GB 39 MB
     [COLOR=red][B] Partition 3    Unknown           3593 MB    34 GB[/B][/COLOR]

Disk 1 is now the selected disk.
      Partition ### Type Size Offset
      ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
      Partition 1 Primary 466 GB 32 KB
My suggestion would be to backup important data and then we will go about deleting this partition. We may not even need the Windows XP boot CD since partition is not mark as an active partition. But we will need to make another CD to edit the partition table.

Sorry I dropped the ball on this as far as getting back to you. The good news is I got my connection back even without doing the deletion. I do have some new logs to post in a new thread because I'm having some fishy browser behavior and, at times, slow computer function. So, this can be closed, please.
