    Case: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811154053

    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813138264

    Processor: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819103562

    RAM: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820146545

    Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822144129

    Wireless card: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16833124115

    Heat sink: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835193002

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 built into the motherboard (I will probably upgrade it)

Sound card: Realtek ALC655 built into the motherboard

Powersource: 300 W, built into the case

I know a lot about computers, so the simple stuff should be right (like making sure both the possessor and motherboard have the same socket, etc.) but there might be other stuff I missed (I'm not sure if the wireless card will work in a desktop or if I picked the right RAM).

Which parts will and won't work? Will this computer be able to run the newest games (like battlefield 2) without lag? (I have broadband internet, so my internet isn't the cause of my lag)

How are you going to load an OS or programs w/o a CD drive? I'd get at least a 400W Power Supply for expandabilty of a Video Card, 2nd HDD or 2nd CD/DVD burner down the road.

Ya I plan to load Windows via CD...I planned to get more RAM down the road. Why would I need a 2nd CD/DVD burner?

    So the parts are compatible?

    So I should look for a new case w/ a 400 W power supply?

thats not what he asked, you dont even have a cd drive in your parts list there so that would PROBABLY be a good idea lol. Definitely buy a better PSU, those ones that come with cases arent usually that great, go for at least 450 watts and from a good brand.

there ya go...much better at least u have a cd drive now

This cpu is a cheaper option with little performance hit,you dont need a dual core for gaming

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103539

get a half decent motherboard for 15 bucks more

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130491

the onboard vid card just wont cut it for anything

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127147

and as jerky and viper said that psu is way underpowered for a modern cpu and vid card, get the psu and case seperatley, the second case you chose has a 400w psu but it wont be quality, you need quality to run a an a64 3700 and 6600gt which is the minimum vid card you should be looking at to play battlefield 2:)

You need more than 300 Watt for PCI Xpress systems.

Don't skimp on power supply. Cheap under-powered units can cause headaches.

A good quality brand name 450 Watt + PSU would be fine.

I also think you can do much better on the motherboard and burner.

For burner, Pioneer or LG are both excellent, and support DVD RAM as well.

For motherboard, ASUS A8N-VM CSM. It has everything you could ever want (including HD onboard audio and onboard DVI and VGA video) at a reasonable price, and uses the latest nVidia nForce 430 chipset.

If you're a gamer, you can upgrade the video to the nVidia 6600GT as Rikky posted, or an ATI X800 GTO, or one of the 6800 flavours such as the GS.

Can you suggest a good (and hopefully cheap) case and power supply?

Yeh I agree with insomniac go with the asus board missed that one ,the coolermaster centurion isnt a great cooling solution but will suffice, its tough when looking at cases in this price range to find one you like with enough fans, I can say for sure there are better cases out there if you look hard:)

power supply also tough most of us will say spend much more on the power supply around $70 if possible can your budget stretch to this,it would be easier for me than checking out all the cheap psu's on newegg:) ,how's the total build budget ATM alot higher than expected?

Well, right now its at $762.89 and I'm trying to keep it under $800. Will the parts I suggested work together, and does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'd like to see something like this power supply go in

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103935

nice healthy 25amps on the 12v and dual 12v rails,pci-e power connector, antec, quiet, dual fan, sata power,3 years warranty, the power supply you last posted just aint gonna cut it,$20 more

    Can we swing it :)

    stargate3216 Private E-2

Did it...the totals about $780...is there anything else I should do?

One other thing about the processor...if i over clocked it, would I need to buy an additional heat sink?

Now your entering a whole new ballgame:eek: ,you can overclock with the stock HSF,airflow through the case is most important the centurion only does enough to keep a moderate system cool, but the overclock will go higher and be more stable with an after market HSF,your gonna want to look at larger psu also even the antec I linked could stumble tryng to power a 6600gt and an a643700,if your serious about overclocking start looking at 450-500w quality psu's with around 30a on the 12v rails

The cpu and video card are a good match,if you get a faster cpu you wont be able to afford a 6600gt,the system now is almost balanced, the video card is actually a little slow for the 3700,but you need the speed of the cpu to avoid lag in large maps with many opponents for example BF2

Once you choose a good case you wont get a much better system for $800,if you upgrade in one area you'll have to skimp in another which will upset the balance,if your worried about a component being too slow you'll just have to up your budget theres no way around it :)

    Any suggestions for a case?

Best just to look over a few case roundups on the web find one you like, with any many fans as possible, the more the better, idealy with large front intakes and large rear extractors, the other factor when looking at cases is cooling to noise ratio,do you want your comp to be audibly invisible or dont you mind a little noise if your components are kept as cool as possible?

The centurion you chose is a quality case just not the best at keeping things cool with only a 120mm extractor and a 80mm intake, its tough to find a great case for 60 bucks,I like this aerocool with two 120mm fans and the option of adding a2 more 80mm extractors or a single 120mm looks like a great cooler, you have to check around for some reviews
