It seems once windows upgrades something you can't go back. At least I couldn't with windows media player. I uninstalled it, went into programs (C) deleted from there but when I tried to reinstall the older one it automatically forced me to take the upgrade. Still can't work the damn thing :cry then again it's probably just me.

Fairly sure they do that deliberately with Windows media player

keep hiding the buttons just to make it difficult :confused

Thats alright, I just have to work with it more and get used to it. Took me a while on the first one too. Old dogs / new tricks syndrome ;)

Check out www.oldversion.com for lots of olde versions for popular programs.

Thumbnail of WMP, as an example. Bazza

    Sorry about that, darlene1029. :cry
Does that still happen with the listing at oldversion.com site?
Are you using Vista, or XP?
Vista comes with WMP11 I understand.
In XP I would have thought you could go back to WMP10, as I think XP was released with WMP9 or 10.

Hope you sort this out. Bazza

I have XP, at first they offered the upgrage as a test, I went back then later on it was not optional. Oh well I'll get used to it. Thanks Bazza

I just went to www.oldversion.com and downloaded WMP 10 without hassles. :cool

Now all you have to do is uninstall WMP11 from your PC, and install WMP10. :D

I am not sure if MS/XP will allow the un-instal of WMP11. :confused

    @WMP11 experts@
Can this be un-installed from XP? I assume it can be.

Can be done through add/remove programs

but, the only option it gives you is to 'rollback to the previous version'
which (in my case) is WMP 9 - the one that shipped with XP.

There is no entry in add/remove programs for WMP 9

However there is in 'Add/Remove Windows Components'
    The description reads
"Adds or removes access to Windows Media Player from the Start menu and Desktop"

So, all it does is removes a couple of shortcuts :D

Have not been prompted/forced to upgrade to WMP11 at this stage

but wait, what is this pop-up ?

    Windows Media Configuration Manager
"A windows Media update is currently available. Would you like to update now?"

I clicked on yes, and it kicked me off line :tas

has not prompted me to update again yet - more later :D

Nup. I use an olde version of Music Match Jukebox. :cool
Just clicked on my WMP magicword shortcut and the answer came back

I have WMP 9 on my laptop and apparently it is no longer working.
I wonder if MS will allow me to reinstall v9, or force me to use v10 or v11?
I won't be finding out in the short term.

Spellcheck wouldn't have found the typo normally, anyhow, unless it incorporates a grammar check. :D ;) Bazza

For what it's worth, when I bought my first WXP machine in November of 2001 it featured WMP 7, so I'd say that was the original version...

Go back to my post #7, www.oldversion.com has WMP v5.1 at 0.2 megs, through to WMP11 at 23 megabytes.

    WMP 11 = 115 times bigger than v5.1 :D :cry Bazza
