    Morning Malware crusaders!

A few days ago I started having a problem with Yahoo hijacking my search bar on Maxthon. I didn't really consider Yahoo malware, I would just change the search back to Google. It would do it for a while and then Yahoo would take over again.

I went to IE and checked the search items and removed Yahoo as an option.
It worked for a few searches and then Yahoo took over the search bar again. So I went back to IE and this time Yahoo search was not listed there.

So last night I ran the read and run me post. The next time I did a search I got google results so I thought all was well. :-o

So I unistalled avg 8.5 becuase I had already decided to change to avast.
This morning I ran the uninstall Avg program to complete the unistall.
Then just to be sure I also ran Avanced SystemCare. It still found more registry entries of Avg to uninstall.

Suprisingly, it also said I was Hijacked.

So I thought I better send in my reports.

Yahoo is still listed as one of the Search choices on the drop down list of Maxthon search where it should Not be, but the icon for it is gone.

It was also odd trying to find the SAS log. It was hidden, not listed in the SAS folder nor was the logs file listed there. I have seen them there in the past but today neither the admin logs, nor log were showing. I had to go in the program and find the log and save a copy to the desk top to find it. Could that be part of the hijack?

I reopened my browser to attach this log and my brower froze.
I opened Winpatrol and deleted some running processes and finally got it going again.

Program file folder opens to a Black screen. :(

What looked (to me) like a little problem, all of a sudden looks big.

If I need to rerun the reports showing todays status, just let me know.

    Thank for being here.

You still have avg8.5 installed. You must have uninstalled it and installed Avast after you attached your logs.

I suggest that you uninstall Threatfire which you did not opt to dis-include during the installation of PCTools Firewall.

Regrading the Yahoo toolbar, you must have included it in the installation of Yahoo Messenger and forgot to uncheck the box for the toolbar.

Your logs are not showing any signs of malware so I suggest that you visit the software forum to address any non malware issues that you are still having.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
