    Hello :)

I was wondering if there is some reason that Adaware SE Personal build 1.05 (updated today with definitions file SE1R26 25.01.2005) keeps freezing on a full system scan at c:\i386\modem.cab..

I can do all of the other folders, but when it gets to c:\i386 it stops.

The system smart scan finds nothing, but the full scan showed one critical object before it froze.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Alisen

    Hi Alisen,

Did you scan in Safe Mode? Did any of your other tools find baddies? (AV/Spybot/Online Scans)

I won't be back here 'til Wed. evening, but wanted to say hi before heading out the door.

    PP :)

    Hi PP,

    Good to see you again!

I've been without internet for 9 days - what a disaster! I am so behind in all of my classes, and just getting caught up. I had nothing to do but sit by the pool and read trashy novels... Are you enjoying all the snow there? <evil laugh>

No, didn't run it in Safe Mode, but will do that. NAV showed nothing, but then I couldn't update till today, so I will re-run it with an update. Am running Trend Java now. Spybot showed nothing, even updated.

I'll post when I know more.

    Thanks,
    alisen

    OK -
Ran online Trend (java) scan (am now using firefox :) ) Nothing found
    Ran NAV Nothing found
    Ran spybot S&D Nothing Found
Ran CC - cleaned up stuff
    Running Spyware Blaster
    Using Sygate personal firewall
Ran Ad-Aware in safe mode, still hangs up on c:\i386\modem.cab - at that point with one critical item found.

    Awaiting suggestions, help, etc
    Thanks as always

Snow's not too bad - Frigid, though. How's Chile?

I wouldn't let the Ad-aware problem bug you too much - It may be one of those things that gets corrected upon the next Reference Update. Did it run fine before latest update?

There are a number of things that you can try if you are so inclined.

    1) Completely Delete and then Reinstall Ad-Aware and try another Safe Mode Scan.

    2) You could try a Disk Defragmentation and then run ScanDisk via START > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance
    and then try new scan.

    3) Should the above fail, you can open a command prompt and try this command line: START > RUN > Copy and paste the following in bold into the box:

    "C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\Ad-Aware.exe" +procnuke

    and click OK.

You will also need to select Full Scan fo Ad-aware to run.

Note: Note that this assumes the location of Ad-aware to be here --> C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal
If it is different, you'll have to adjust the command line accordingly.

Let me know how you fare with the above. Not around too often these days, but will try to keep an eye open for your reply.

    Best,
    PP :)

    PP -
Well, you've done it again! I am not sure if it was the defrag {though it really needed to be done anyhow} or the delete/reinstall but it works now.

    Thanks a million,
    alisen

PS - it's sunny and beautiful here in Chile :) There is something about being someplace summery when it's winter where I come from that is very appealing to me ;)

    You're welcome!

It'll be sunny and warm here soon enough. Baseball season is around the corner! Those thoughts keep me going when it is icy cold like today.

    Best :)
