Each time I start up settings in display properties resets to
    Screen resolution 640 X 480
Color Quality low 8 - bit
    I rest them to
    1024 X 768
    32 bit
apply and restart and they reset to the above.

The correct monitor and Adapter are selected.

I ran a update search for each and it says I have the latest driver version.

If I need to update the monitor and Adapter driver what version and where do I need to go?

    Any Help would be appreciated.

Whatever driver it is, it definately isn't functioning.

I would get the latest from Nvidia.

    have you tried 800x600 resolution?

plus where you able to access the 1024 X 768 res before?

I set the resolution to 800x600 resolution as you suggested and restarted, same problem.

Yes i have used the 1024 X 768 res for abour a year. It is the recomended seting for a program that I use to play poker (play/not real money) with. This problem seem to have started after downloading the service pack 2 and installing the software that came with the new keyboard and mouse.

The only time when 640x480x8 is displayed in XP is when it is in VGA mode, or the video adapter/driver isn't working.

Check msconfig, make sure /basevideo is not enabled.

As a workaround, you can disable the video card in Device Manager.

    Thanks Adrynalyne,
This is where computer dangerous starts for me. In the System Configuration Utility. The only place I find base/vidio is in the Boot.INI, Boot options. The box is unchecked.
Is this correct or do I need to check this box? All the box are unchecked, Safeboot, noguiboot, bootlog, sos, maxmen, numproc, pocilock and debug.

If its unchecked you are good to go.

Click 'cancel' on your way out, just in case.

    Thanks Adrynalyne,

First I would like to thank you and every one that helped me with this problem.

I was able to get through to Microsoft and found out NVIDIA has never responded with an update for NVIDIA TNT2-Pro 16MB SDRAM (AGP Upgradeable) and is not currently compatible with Service pack 2.

You know what NVIDIA response was.

The GeForce2 32MB and 64MB SDRAM (AGP Upgradeable) is on their list as Service pack 2 compatible.

Thanks for helping to make a old man a little more of a Geek.

I had the same card (recently went to ATI), and it wouldn't work with any upgraded drivers no matter what I did. I was stuck with the old drivers, I finally switched to another card because it was getting left behind by some of the newer games. Maybe you should look for old drivers-just a thought.
