    Hello,

I am a college student and i don't know where i got Trojan.Vundo virus but it is haunting me. I tried every other way to remove it but it doesn't work. I looked at the archives and found instructions about it and tried that and even that didn't work. At first i tried removing it with Symnatec's own removal tool. But it failed to find the virus. Norton keeps popping the Virus Alert sign that there is a virus in the file c:\WINDOWS\system32\iifge.dll

I tried booting in Safe mode and made another scna with the removal tool but that didnt solve my problem either. The last thing i did was follow these intructions.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

This thing is a real pain to track down and remove completely! It takes a lot of dogged persistence on your end to track down and remove all associated duplicates and backups. Let's give it a shot, shall we?

Please follow the below carefully and as thoroughly as possible.
Print these instructions out, or save them locally so that you can operate with ALL Browser Windows CLOSED!

    Please download Pocket KillBox (http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip)

    NOW:
Copy and paste the information below to notepad. Save it to your Desktop as type "all files" and name it fixmundo.reg

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\bakdb]

    Leave it for now.

    NEXT:
Make sure you are completely disconnected from the Internet.

Then, run CCleaner. After that, you must run a search for all bdkab & bakdb entries on your machine (.ini, .exe, .dat, .bak, etc. . . ) Use Windows Explorer to track them down if possible.

    Now:
DoubleClick on the fixmundo.reg file you made and follow the prompts to allow it to merge the registry entries into the registry.

    NEXT:
    Please run Pocket Killbox.
Select the option to Delete on Reboot.

Now, Enter or Copy and Paste C:\WINNT\msagent\bakdb.exe into the box and Click the Red X and Yes to the confirmation message. A message will ask if you want to reboot now – Click NO.

Now, Enter or Copy and Paste C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\bdkab.dat into the box and Click the Red X and Yes to the confirmation message. A message will ask if you want to reboot now – Click YES .

    THEN:
After your machine reboots, Scan with HijackThis and FIX these entries:
    O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {FF4D5071-EE0E-4DCA-BC1C-D776B0F2276E} - C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\bdkab.dat
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*bakdb] C:\WINNT\msagent\bakdb.exe rerun
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: bakdb - C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\bdkab.dat

    NEXT:
Run the Symantec Vundo Removal Tool again and then run CCleaner again.

Finally, reboot and rescan with HJT and attach the log. Let me know how you fared with the above and whether you ran into any problems. Hopefully we'll get it!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
I rebooted my computer after fixing the entries in hijackthis norton's alert popped up again.
Please help me! Is there anythingelse i can do to fix this. I have to finish my school work and our network doesn't even let me in because i have a virus.

I would greatly appreciate it someone can respond quickly.

    Thank you

Please work thru our standard cleaning procedures below even if you have done them before. Make sure you check to see that you have the versions that are links indicate and make sure you have checked for detections/reference file updates. Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Fix w/ Tool

yes i have looked at the last tutorial named Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Fix w/ Tool and close to the end of instructions before opening hijackthis i can read on the blue dos screen that it says the iifge.dll file cannotbe removed because it is used by another application. I thought that was nothing then i went on to hijackthis and fixed my two problems then went back to the blue screen was ready to reboot however there was an error on the screen saying that a critical file in VundoFix.exe is missing and beacuse of that the process cannot be completed.
    Why is this happening?

For starters I asked that you post your log as an ATTACHMNET, there is a reason for this. Second you have HijackThis installed incorrectly. Third you did not run any on the requested scans in our read me first.

You have many more problems other than Vundo.

From Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, uninstall the following:
Make sure you have done the following:
How to view hidden, system files & folders!
Searching for Hidden Files on WinXP
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

    Download
    - Pocket Killbox
    - Hoster
    - LSP-Fix
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program.
Check the Box labeled "I know what I'm doing" and then click on the newdotnet6_30.dll file (in the “Keep” section) to select it.

Then, Select the >> button to move newdotnet6_30.dll into the Remove section.

Now, click the Finish Button. When the Repair Summary box appears, click OK.
If it is already in the Remove section, just click Finish.

Please make sure System Restore is OFF and the Viewing of Hidden Files & Foldersis Enabled as per the tutorial.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
    • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
    • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
    • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
    • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

      it should look like this
    • At this point press enter one time.
    • Next you will see:
    • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\iifge.dll
    • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
    • Next you will see:
    • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\egfii.*
    • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
    • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
    • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
    • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
    • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
    • Once your machine reboots please attach a fresh HJT log from normal mode.

Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above post a HijackThis log as an ATTACHMNET.
