RAM make comp faster?

hey guys i was just wondering if when you add more ram in the computer, does it make it faster?

 

Depends on your CPU Speed. Need more info about your computer...

Anyway, if your computer is a good 2.0 to 3.0 GHz then you could see speed changes if you're currently running RAM under 512MB. Usually the case is that you are running a lot of programs like Printer moniters, Antivirus, firewalls, multiple internet explorers, or chat messsengers. This causes a slow down if you don't have more than 512 MB of ram.

 

Up to a certain point (going above 2 gigs doesnt really give a noticable performance boost for most people) adding more RAM will decrease loading times, allow for better multitasking (u can run more programs at once without slow down/unresponsiveness) and decreases hard drive usage/access during games or similar (doesnt use the page file as much)

 

Have to agree with both comments. It will depend on your current system specs and how much RAM you have. If you have say 512Mb and increase it to 2Gb you will notice a percieved increase as your RAM will be able to process a larger amount of info that the processor is sending at it and aleviate any potential bottlenecks. But it can only run as fast as your processor (clock speed), the RAM's rated speed and when adding RAM it will always run as slow as the slowest module you currently have (for adding more RAM to exisiting RAM).

You will only benefit from greater than 2Gb of RAM if you have a 64Bit environement (XP 64 bit or a Linux OS) otherwise you will experince minimal to no difference when increasing greater than 2Gb.
