What programs convert new docs to 98SE?

Hey all,

Say, I'm finally hitting that roadblock. I'm starting to have more and more difficulty with reading documents sent to me in newer versions of Windows—I have Win98SE. Unless the docs are sent to me in .rtf or .pdf formats, I sometimes get the errors that state Wordpad caused a such-and-such error (which means it cannot read the file). Unfortunately, I do not have a version of MS Word; I only have Wordpad and MS Works. (MS Works...what a joke, but that's what came with this Compcrap...ahem...I mean Compaq when my wife got it five years ago.)

So, either I have to get Word somehow (is Word sold seperately from Office?) or a converter. Anyone know of any ideas?

Seems mi¢ro$oft have removed their Word97 viewer from their d/loads, however I have a copy so if you need it send me a pm.

 

I'm told Open Office (Free) will read .doc files. It's a big download though.

Word97 Viewer won't read the newer Word file formats, Word2003 Viewer won't run on 98. Open Office would be the route to go if you need to read newer Word documents.
