I have a hideous creature on my hard drive..a cybersitter called safesite.. Don't know how it got on but its driving me nuts! I consider it an invasion of my privacy since it controls what i can and cannot see and download.. It has good features, especially if there are children in the household with access to the computer..but not applicable to my situation...anyway, i can't get rid of it..i've spent hours on google etc. trying to get some help.. no luck..
Short of reformatting my hard drive (don't want to if i don't have to) can anybody advise (1) how to get rid of it and (2) a good software program to prevent it from recontaminating my hard drive..
I'm running an old IBM clone computer 330MZ clock speed & Windows 98 on DSL.. total HD capacity 7.5GB ..with about 1.5GB taken. I know i need a new computer but this serves me well for now.

    Thanks for the help

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Did you right click on Start? If you left click, you will not see it.

Other alternatives to bring up explorer:

    - double click on MyComputer and select your C drive
    - Left click Start and select Programs and look for explorer (not Iexplorer or Internet Explorer). If not there, look under Accessories.
    - Also you can left click Start, click Run and then enter explorer and click OK.
