    Hi everyone :)

I have managed to transfer files from computer to blackberry before using windows explorer without any problems. HOwever today when l link up via USB cable, although My Computer is showing Removable Disk E:, when I click on it, I get message "please insert disk into drive E:" :(

    How can I sort this?

    Thanks

You may have to go into disc manager and change the drive letter.

    Hi

Thanks for getting back so promptly. I have gone into device manager and can see that the blackberry is recognised under disk drives. How do I go into disc manager and change the letter?

Control panel / Admin Tools / Computer Manager / Disk Management. Or you can try leaving the blackberry plugged in and rebooting it to see if it then assigns a different drive letter.

I opened disk manager and volume c details are listed. as Disk 0. However although disk 1 Removable (E:) is shown underneath Disk 0 on the left, on the right there is nothing just grey. It is also says No Media underneath Removable (E:). So how can I change disk letter?

Well, that won't work!! :) Try leaving it plugged in and reboot. See if it then gives you a different drive letter. Or at least is then recognized.

I do not know if it is the easy way, but you can try installing the Blackberry Desktop Software , when you plug the BB you will have a popup asking for the password; if you have one, then you will have access to the Micro SD card with all the folders.;)

I have rebooted the computer and there is no change in the situation. So I will try with the BB desktop software but it would be helpful to know if there is another way of remedying why the external drive is not being recognised.

Have you tried plugging into another USB port? Sometimes Windows tries to assign a different drive letter if you plug it into a different port and maybe it's not working correctly on that one for some reason.

you can use a card reader... you still will be able to "see" the files: BlackBerry... Pictures, music etc.;)

I have now tried plugging into another USB port and there is no difference. The Blackberry is able to recharge batteries from computer but nothing else. I have yet to try with BB desktop software but would prefer to do it the simple way using windows to copy and paste. Seems odd that used to work and now is not..:confused

I do not know if the corporate ones work the same as the "regulars" I have the BB software installed but I do not use it, just plug it and recharge it; as I said before when I plug it only asks for the password and I Am able to "see" all the files I used too the card reader way and I can see all the files too (pictures and music), so as sugested try another USB... and let us know I will ask a tech at work for some workaround...;)

Maybe your card is full or damaged in some way...:(

Ahh now I remember why I didn't want to use blackberry media manager (I have desktop manager 5.0 which is from 2009). The installer is 133mb and gets stuck at 15.1mb :cry everytime... So I can't use windows explorer - whatever USB I plug the Blackberry into, it is not recognised in My Computer. I can't use media manager, what exactly is a card reader? - do I have to buy one?:(

In your control panel, do you have a BlueTooth Devices?

    Hi

Have you tried removing and re-inserting the memory card into the phone? It could have been jarred slightly, causing it to not be read.

Have you tried accessing it from another computer, to eliminate the possibility that there's an issue on your computer causing the problem?

    OK

After a break for some deep breathing I am back to try to sort this out ;)
Firstly in Control Panel there is nothing saying Bluetooth Devices. (I have an IBM R50E laptop) Secondly I have taken out the memory card and the bigger card which has my Tmobile details on it. I have put them back in and there is no change.
I also tried mobile with another laptop and same story - it can be recharged but when I click removable disk E: I get the same message "Please insert disk into drive E:"
I thought it might be a software update issue but I can't update software if the blackberry is not recognised by the computer :cry

Which BB do you have? Let us know the model (so I can ask here at work with any of the technicians). Are you absolutely sure that the cable is in good condition? :confused

    Hi

I have a Blackberry Curve 8520. I assume the cable must be OK for the mobile to be able to be recharged through it....

Eventhough I did not know the model, I asked to my friend and he said this: We are not sure if this is a software problem because you can not connect to the computer, but could be two things: a) software problem and b) the connector itself. If it is a connector problem, you have to send the device to your local RC or to the place where you bought it, because for that the device have to have be disassembled; any way at that time they are going to pass the device through a series of test to find out the real problem. I hope this helps. By the way that device is an old good one...;) Does not matter if it recharges, the phone uses different pin configuration to the purposes of transmiting data.
