Spybot "Include errors.log"

    Hello,

When I run Spybot, it stops during the "search and destroy" function and puts up this message:

Warning: problems in the include file c:\Program Files\Spybot _Search_Destroy|Includes\Hijackers.sbi
    See "Include errors.log" for details.

I went to this file and when I clicked on the file, it opened up what appears to be a different version of Spybot. It has a different main screen than the version I usually run (1.3.0.12, SpybotSD.exe). The Hijackers.sbi file reads "version 1.3.1TX."

Do I have two different versions of Spybot loaded, or is one of these a hijack version? If it's two versions, how do I get rid of the oldest version?

If it's something more sinister, how do I fix it?

The main screen on the version I usually run (1.3.0.12, SpybotSD.exe) was fairly plain at the bottom. The other version (version 1.3.1TX) that I clicked on in the Includes folder has a fancier bottom to the main screen, with Spybot Search & Destroy in a large blue box that includes a graphic of a fingerprint. This version now loads when I click on my Spybot icon, but I haven't run it yet.

    Thanks for any advice.

Your version of Spybot is way out of date.

Uninstall your current version and then reboot your PC.
After reboot goto the C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy folder and delete it.

Now download the proper version: Spybot
Install it and get the updates.

    Now how are things working?

Done. Thanks! I had to do something with permissions to get it to install and now it's running.

    Two questions remain:

    1) Why didn't I have the latest version of Spybot? I click on "Search for Updates" most times I use the program and assumed this would also include newer versions.

    2) On the "Add or Remove" page, I just noticed that Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06 is listed at the top in an area separate from all the other programs. Is this normal and if not, how do I get it down into the list with all the other programs?

With Ad-Aware, I usually click on Check for Updates and it often tells me I need a newer version. I have attempted to download the newer version many times, but still get the same message when checking for updates, or else it takes me to Lavasoft's website. The program runs fine.

    Any advice appreciate.

Updates normally only inform you of definitions updates. They do not always tell you about program version changes. You have to be vigilent about checking all the time yourself for updates.

I'm not sure what you mean about Ad-aware in add/remove programs. Perhaps you are confused because it is at the top of the list and comes up selected. Just select another program and see if it looks different. You did not say what OS you have so I'm assuming it is WinXP. What version of reference file are you running with Ad-Aware SE? It should be: Ad-aware SE referencefile SE1R63 24.08.2005

Everything okay here. You are right, AdAware was just at the top and appeared in blue because of this (I'm embarrassed). I do have the latest version you mentioned.

I'll start to watch for new versions instead of expecting the updates to include them.

    Many thanks for your help!!!
