virus ate my scanner

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 with 2Gb memory, and an Epson RX620 printer/scanner. A fully paid-up McAfee Security Centre is installed. Recently the scanner has failed to respond to requests to scan from the computer; it brings up a preview, but after that only makes a noise in response to any key press, including a command to close. I can use the scanner direct, without going through the computer, and it works correctly through an older (laptop) computer. I've run McAfee specifically, although it runs at Startup; it said it had checked 131,000 files and found nothing. Where do i go from here?
