hi guys, my mcafee 12month has recently expired, ive just joined sky broadband and they provide a free mcafee
when i tried to uninstall my old one i got a script error page
would i like to debug, yes or no
i cant remember the exact message now
every time i got as far as this the uninstaller froze leaving my pc unusable
so ive been thru my search and deleted everything mcafee
now ive tried to install my new mcafee and i get this error message
    error
    a runtime error has occured
    do you wish to debug
    line: 209
error: activex component cant create object: 'scripting.dictionary'

    yes or no (boxes appear)
if i press no, the computer will freeze
if i press yes it opens

    just in time debugging
    please select a debubber

possible debuggers - new instance of microsoft script editor

then theres a tick in the checkbox to 'set the currently selected debugger as the default'

do you want to use the selected debugger?
    yes or no boxes

    i select the yes box

ms script editor opens and a popup appears from it

    step into remote procedure call

    process:
    [3444] C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\Shared\mghtml.exe

i select ok box and i get this attached screenshot of ms script

    please help
    i cant use my pc
    cheers guys

    Good job Carl.

Probably a combination of things, but the Windows Script certainly helped. Glad you got it sorted. :)

comp seems to be running better all round, im wondering whats actually at fault
ive noticed a folder full of old prefetch files saved on my d:\ drive which i moved when i had a major virus a while back, i should put them back in there and see if it cures the never ending list of faults ive been having with the pc
is there any tests or tools i can use on windows script to check for faults?

    Hi Carl

I would delete those old prefetch files, your C drive prefetch folder will be repopulated with current applications, these just help speed the loading of applications up, not worth deleteing the current ones either or you will have a period of time in which your pc will be a tiny bit slower due to prefetch repopulating again.

I would do a bit of PC cleaning and this guide is good http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106650

are all the errors windows script errors your having? maybe worth starting a new thread if the other issues are not linked to Mcafee, that way starts a fresh thread as it looks like your McAfee issues are sorted?

thanx for info guys, im gonna do what u recommended
but first i have another problem
    mcafee has found 2 viruses
    iloba i think
mcafee wouldnt delete, quarantine or clean them, ive been onto mcafee support and they told me to download and run 'sdat' to scan the pc from dos
    which ive done
and it hasnt found the virus
ive also got a process called regscan running and eating up my memory
    yarrrrrgggghhhhh
im running mcafee adaware and spybot in safe mode to see if that will sort it
if not ill start a new thread on it
it seems the mcafee supplied by sky broadband isnt worth the the price of the free cd its supplied on confused
    this is never ending
    :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry
im fed up of creating folders full of files in the hope of sorting the comp out
all it seems like im doing is getting the thing to run worse and worse
who was it who said laptops were a nightmare last night in the chat rooom
    your wrong
at least u can throw a laptop out the window without too much effort
but this thing is a drain on my physical and mental strength
spybot has just found zlob.videoactivexobject running in safe
    :(

    Hi Carl

I would run the guide in malware http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 then start and new thread in malware and attach the requested logs, to clean up your PC before attempting any other troubleshooting as your issues maybe caused by malware, so lets rule that out then go at the others.
