basically, i reloaded windows 98 se on a friends laptop, however the resolution(?) really sucks. in device manager it says.

Display adapters --> Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)

and if i go to Display Properties, the only two options for color are 2 colors and 16 colors. the Screen Area is set to 640 by 480 pixels, but I can't change it (it won't let me move/slide the button).

so my question to you all is. can I update the drivers to something else? I have tried to update the display driver, but it only looks on the disk, or on the hard drive.

I would go to the manufacturers site for the laptop and see if they have drivers for the video.
Standard Video Adapter(VGA) is windows default. You have to "tell" windows what kind of monitor it has, or install drivers for the video card or video adapter(if its on-board video).
