Delete the file you already have and then download the file from the below link:

    AVG Free Edition

I had previously removed AVG via add/remove (control panel). Then I did a search for files/folders containing "AVG" and "Grisoft" and one was found. I deleted that file then D/L'd the AVG exe again. After going through the setup I get a window stating 1 error occurred. Here are the details of that error window:

    "Local machine: installation failed
    Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
    Error 0x80070005"

I'm guessing it has something to do with a registry key....... brilliant eh? What should I do next? Thank you!

Is this after the installation or during the installation? Sounds like you have Windows Operating System issues. Can other programs be installed without error?

I believe it is after the installation. The AVG Installer windows show files being extracted, downloaded, etc. Then it gets to the end of the installation process and that error message pops up.
I have had no problems installing other programs with the exception of Ad-aware a few months back. I have since been able to install Ad-aware but not AVG. I believe Ad-Aware had a problem with their new version and some older OS (Windows 2000) but have addressed this issue.

This is unlikely to be a malware problem. Is more likely a registry permissions issue.

Run regedit and navigate to the below registry key.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows

Right click on this registry key and select Permissions

Make sure Full Control and Read are set to Allow for your user account.

I run regedit, select hkey_local_machine folder, select software, select microsoft, select windows, then the windows folder expands to 4 more folders (current version, help, html help, IT storage). I'm not sure where to go or do what you have instructed. (Windows 2000 OS)

Just do what I said. I did not ask you to expand it or click on the other keys. I said to right click on the key I gave.
