Sometimes you need a screenshot of an application to show someone where you're having a problem. While most geeks obviously know how to do this, many people needing help simply do not.

So, here's how to take a screenshot in under 2 minutes.

Thanks for this useful and concise post Major Attitude! :)

Another way would be to use the Windows Snipping Tool. I like this method because you don't have to worry about pasting the clipboard into Paint. You just select the area you want in the capture and save it. ;)

Fixed that busted frame for you :)

I'm intrigued... you say press "Alt+Printscreen". I've only ever had to press the key marked 'PrtSc SysRq' (ie no Alt key needed). Not saying you're wrong: just, as I say, intrigued :)

Well, that's the way it works on my current keyboard, but I just wonder, if some keyboards are not a little bit different. ???

Mine's pretty different (I use a Dvorak layout). But as far back as I can remember, every keyboard I've ever used (even them *spit* QWERTY ones) has only ever needed a PrtSc key hit to grab the screenshot. Maybe it's because I'm in the UK? I dunno... /shrug

    P.S. 'The Shadow'???

How you get the screen image onto the Windows Clipboard is not as important as what you do next.....just sitting on the Clipboard isn't doing much for you.

Over the years, my step #2 differed greatly, till a friend of mine (my software GURU) showed me how to use "Photo Filtre" to turn the clipboard image into a real .jpg file that I could crop, edit and save. It was like magic!

I installed Photo Filtre (yup, it's French) and put a shortcut to it in my Quick Launch Toolbar (Task Bar) where I can get at it in one mouse click.
Once it's OPEN, I put my mouse cursor in the center of the window and right click, selecting "Paste as new image".
And, there's my image, which I can then resize, crop, edit in any way I might with Photo Shop, and then save anyplace I like.
It's quicker and easier than I had ever thought possible.
I also use Photo Filtre, to edit all the pictures I take with my digital camera. For a FREE program, it's really quite powerful.

    Cheers Mates!

There's a coupla websites I've encountered that make screenshot capture even simpler. Trouble is, I can never remember their domain names... /doh
