Thought I could through a router?

I've got two hp pavilions and a laptop. I thought I could at least share a printer through the router. I used to be able too. Needless to say, the laptop crashed. I sent it back. It's "repaired." Since then, I've added the second pavilion and can't seem to get the networks or, at least, sharing a printer to work. Any ideas?

You really need to post more info for these types of questions.
At the very least we need to know what make/model of router
    and operating systems.

I'll try, I'm still a little new at this.

I've got a pavilion a350y, a pavilion D4100y, and an HP laptop. I've got them routed with a Linksys NR041 to a speed stream for the DSL. The printer I want to use is a photosmart 2610. Everything is XP and updated to current.

When I had the 350 and laptop working on the shared printer I also had an old gateway w/ME running. It all worked then. I tried to set this up and can't print at all now. From what I can see, everythings networked, but nothing works. The new D4100y is freaking that its being hijacked, the laptop is saying that its networked but can't recognize the printer, and my computer, the 350 is oblivious.

Yikes, I've only got a few hours left before I need everything! I apologize for not knowing as much as I should, but that's why I'm asking.

Unfortunately, you did not say how you are trying to network the printer.

If you are trying to use the printer as a standalone, in other words, not having it connected to a primary machine and just having it directly connected to the router, you may be having trouble with the dhcp settings on the printer. If your printer is not set up to use DHCP and your IP address range changed, your printer may still be trying to connect to the old IP address. For example, your printer may have been statically assigned to 192.168.0.100 and by default, Linksys usually uses 192.168.1.xxx.

If you are connected through another computer, it is likely you are having issues with your firewall software.

    Thanks PoDuck,

I do have the printer connected to my primary computer. I had made an error in port assignments and can now print from this computer. Unfortunately, I think there's a glitch somewhere in the same computers networking program. While the laptop and 4100 say they are connected, my 350 says that I'm not allowed access to the network. It says that the administrator has to give me access. Someone told me to try to reset the network in safe mode, but I don't know how to do that.

    Still muddling through, Miss Martha
